Excellent! I'm seeing Jay & Co. tomorrow night in Fairfield, CT.
Judging by social media stuff it appears this tour is going very well for SV. Several shows have sold out and feedback is very positive.
You're in for a treat, jr29. The Volt is charged and firing on all cylinders. Of course, when you play Trace in its entirely as it appears on the album, you cannot go wrong.
The plan was to attend both nights this weekend in St Louis, but a sick kid and a sick cat kept my wife and I at home for Friday's show.
We were there last night though and it was great. Sold out, absolutely packed house. The format of the show( Doug Sahm portion, entire Trace album, random tunes, encore sans Windfall) along with a lineup change, and Jay never picking up an accoustic guitar made the vibe different than any SV show I've ever been to.
Ten Second News was probably my high point. Long, simmering back and forth between Mark Spencer on lap steel and John Horton on six string slide.
First song of the encore was The Weight and it was fantastic. I was right up front and I could hear the crowd behind me screaming the lyrics. The band traded vocals on the verses just like the original. I even caught Jay smiling at one point. Whatever The Weight does to us, I felt in a big big way.

Oh yes. He's such a peculiar guy. After about the second or third song my wife, who had previously seen SV one time and didn't have strong memories from the show, turned to me and said something about Jay and band not messing around between tunes. One song is done, maybe a quick guitar swap, then straight into the next one. I let her know that this would not be an evening of banter or crowd interaction. And there wasn't. Zero acknowledgement that it was a hometown show. Zero cheap cheers about the Cardinals or Blues or local restaurants........nothing.

Contrast that with his former bandmate, Tweedy, who takes the crowd banter to another level. I saw Tweedy this summer solo and my date commented, "Is the guy gonna sing or just go back and forth with the audience all night?"

I enjoyed Larkin Poe last night (never heard of them previously), and the Black Crowes were a “bucket list” band.

I’m looking forward to Paul Cauthen tonight. I really like Turnpike Troubadours and will probably stay for them, but Monday am comes early!

How much of them did you see, if you know what I mean?

Did anybody go to the U2 show in Vegas? I'm thinking of you, Worldwide Bill. Interesting review of the show in the Sunday NYT that was as much about the venue (the new Sphere) as about the band. The future has arrived I guess.

Not much. It was sold out and we got last minute tickets on the lawn, way in the back. We were really far away. It was fun though, just being part of a very cool scene. Those chicks played some bangers and the crowd was REALLY into it.

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit with Amanda Shires last night. Even with a new bass player, the band is still incredibly tight and put on an awesome show. Outfit got a funny intro about Jason’s time with DBT. Will Johnson has been an awesome addition to the band on this tour.
