Rest of the week

King Crimson
King Crimson
White Denim
Well White Denim are still my favourite live band on the planet. Was a bit worried as hadn't seen the new lineup before but they are probably better than when Josh and Austin were in the band. Plus seeing them at the Paradiso helped.

This weeks fun will mainly be delivered by Parquet Courts.
You're on quite a run! Hope all the shows live up to expectations. Should we assume the worst since u didn't say anything about KC?

Crimson were great both nights. First night in Birmingham the first half was an all out aural assault, second half a bit more mellow. Second night was the other way round. The first night seemed to flow a lot better and was my favourite of the two shows.

Saw Parquet Courts on Wednesday in Amsterdam, thank you work conference. Good show although they do vere around a bit musically. They show was lit with only front lighting which is something you don’t see very often.

This weekend is musical weeken. Seeing Hamilton tonight and Hadestown tomorrow.

I will check Los Lobos off my bucket list tonight. It's a Casino show so I suspect it will be short, but to have them visit my town is an honor. I've been a fan since 1984 but have never made a show.

That's a great 2 nights of shows. Was supposed to see Lee and the boys tonight, but my daughter's 10th birthday party takes precedence.

saw Robyn Hitchcock again... was really excited to see "NY Doll" and "Autumn Is Your Last Chance" on the previous show's set list but alas he didn't play those, nor the title cut of "I Often Dream Of Trains." The highlights were songs he did play the other night, "Flavour Of Night" on piano, and "52 Stations." overall we got a half dozen or so less songs, but i won't complain. another sublime evening.

Fleetwood Mac were great. The new guys have breathed some life into it. Mike Campbell is running things musically. He's an amazing guitar player. Neil Finn is 1 of my faves & he acquitted himself nicely. Don't Dream It's Over got 1 of the best reactions from the crowd. The Tom Petty tribute of Free Falling was very emotional & Stevie sang her heart out. If you like the Mac at all, I'd recommend the show.

I saw St.Paul & the Broken Bones last week. I don't find myself listening to the new album much, but the new songs worked remarkably well in a live setting. They put on a solid show.

That show was out-of-control good, I thought. "Wolves" was worth the price of admission alone.

tonight- Lyle Lovett/Robert Earl Keen, Chico State. When that is done, walk around block to El Rey Th. to see Mother Hips (show was originally announced as a benefit for victims of the Carr Fire of a few months back. Alas, since this was announced we had the Camp Fire, no idea if it is now a benefit for victims of both). LL/REK should be done before Hips start (fingers crossed)

tomorrow- Whitey Morgan, Senator Th, Chico (depending on how well I am dealing with a really painful foot issue)

Tuesday- Neko Case, Sierra Nevada Brewery Big Room (which isn't big at all, holds about 320 people, smaller than her typical venue)

I'm not sure who all is on tonight--JKutchma, Dazz and Brie, and Slobberbone I'm sure about, and all of whom I'm really up for, but there are others--and last night it was Tim Easton, 6-String Drag, and Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires. All three of them were really good. The Glory Fires performance was, I think, the longest I've seen them play at 1:15, and also the best. The show flowed really well and had more range of tempo and dynamic than I've seen with them before. They're playing just a little quieter and the nuances of the sound are starkly revealed, to the benefit of all concerned, yet the intensity level is as high as it's ever been. Maybe this was just a really great night, but I recommend you see them if they're near you soon, especially if the louder shows I'm used to (and love) weren't your cup of tea. And if you really like those louder shows? You should still go see them if they're near you soon. They're still plenty loud.

So I ended up missing Dazz and Brie (who I'll get to see later this month, maybe with the kid) and most of JKutchma. What I did see was just fine and I'm anxious to check out the merch I picked up from him. I'd buy some Slobberbone music, too, if they'd bring some. But they never do. They sounded great, though. Their songs are deeper for me every time I hear them, and I'll never hear a better cover of Makes No Difference At All. (Turns out I know all the words to that one. Who knew?)
