Did they do many song from the new album?
It was a typically short show and I haven't popped the new one yet to listen, but I only recall two songs from the previous records.

They seem to be doing this as an annual event. Been going on for a few years now. They label it as a touring Americana festival. Why not plan a short Scandi-vacation next July?

Dwight Yoakam this Sunday in Tupelo.

Also should be seeing the Turnpike troubadours next month in Memphis and Son Volt earlier in August in St. Louis.

Dwight and band were tremendous. I wasn't sure about Tupelo on a Sunday night but the crowd was large and really into the show.
If you are into Dwight's "hits" this might be the time to see him. He's touring all over the country through November. I don't think he played anything from his last 2-3 records. It was an all killer, no filler type show. There were also covers...opened with "Little Queenie", played four merle Haggard songs, two Buck Owens songs, and three Elvis covers. Great night.

Really enjoyed seeing Sturgill Simpson Friday night. I've been a real big fan from day one and had been wanting to see him for a while. This also my first show at the Fox. Other than the sky high beer prices I really like it.

I will admit to being a little disappointed when the band walked out and Laur wasn't with them. I had somehow missed that he and Sturgill have parted ways. It would have been nice to see him play live but any disappointment evaporated as soon as the first song started.

Sturgill handles all guitar work right now and while I knew he was good with the flat picking in his acoustic I had no idea he was as good as he is. He played electric the entire show and he absolutely tore it up.

The horn section has been shelved too but the sound lacked nothing.

He played mostly songs from Sailor's Guide and Metamodern. I think he only played two songs from High top Mountain and while more would have been nice it wasn't like I left disappointed. He closed with Call To Arms and nearly blew the roof off doing so.

Right now the band has more of a rock sound. As long as Sturgill is singing it will be country but the band sounds far more rock right now.

The only regret I have is that it took me so long to finally get to one of his shows.

Sturgill is my favorite artist of the last four years and I am really glad to see him succeeding the way he is and doing it on his terms.

We ran into Chuck, his bass player, out on the street after the show. The guy walking in front of us recognized about the same time I did and started talking to him so I just clapped him on the shoulder and thanked him and kept moving. I can't wait to see Sturgill play again. Really great night.

Nice. I saw that he's playing Standard Deluxe in September but it's a week before the Orange Peel DBT shows so I doubt it's in the cards. Have fun!

Colter Wall last night. He covered TVZ and introduced songs with "Here's a murder ballad" "This is a folk song" and "Here's a truck driving song." He's got a great little country band with him and he's a pretty good bandleader too. Hard to believe he's just 22. I was impressed.

I really wanted to like Colter Wall more than I do. It may click later but I can't stand his voice. I hear people say he sounds like Johnny Cash and he doesn't. That isn't why I don't like it. I don't like it because who he does sound exactly like is Joaquin Phoenix in Walk The Line, trying to sound like Johnny Cash. I can't un-hear that.

Just got back from Steve Earle/Lucero at the Ryman, fantastic show as I expected. Earle played everything off the new record, and of course plenty of his older material. My one qualm with the show was how long Earle’s set went (2+ hours), but for the most part it didn’t feel that long. Lucero really stole the show to me, glad to finally see them on one of the grandest stages of them all.

Only shitty part of the experience was the kid in the row behind us puking everywhere, but hopefully his parents learned to stop sneaking him beer after beer

Cole, I don't think he sounds like Johnny Cash on his record but live he absolutely did. People around me at the show were commenting about the similarity. And the funny thing is, he's a relatively little dude, probably 5'9" or so, with that deep booming voice.
