that is a very cool lineup.

Courtney Barnett last night, sold out show at Union Transfer, opening night of her tour, new record being released tomorrow. Man what a show. Her trio is now a quartet (they added a chick who switched off on guitar/keyboard). They came out an played her entire new record in order. No one knew the songs but it didn't matter, the new stuff sounded great live. She followed by playing some older stuff from her first two records. Courtney can flat out shred on guitar and her band is super tight (and loud), it was a full on sonic assault. Also, Kurt Vile came out for the encore and they jammed together on Over Everything and Depreston. So glad I saw this show. See this tour if you can.

Josh T Pearson was great on Wednesday. A mix of his new (straight) songs, a few covers and a couple of songs off Last of the Country Gentlemen, which were the highlight for me, and a load of jokes. Erica Wennerstrom was also good, but most of you already know that. She seems to be a lot happier with the new songs and she brought along the guitarist from her band, who is a damn fine guitar player.

Sturgill tore it up with Tyler Childers on Whitehouse Road. He also sat in with Margo. Must have been quite a show.

Tyler already had the crowd rocking, but when he brought Sturgill out I thought folks were about to start jumping off the balcony.

Fantastic show that opened with Laid Back Country Picker, neat moment was Margo bringing out Lukas Nelson to do Pay Gap with her. Disappointed I couldn’t make it tonight, but excited for Wednesday with Colter Wall.

i did stop up to see my friends in Gozu before the show started, but was crashing hard so i didn't stick around for their show... i've got two cups of coffee in me, tour laundry is all done, and i'm trying to clear my last remaining show reviews before I pick up my son and we hit Boston Calling starting today.

Saw Dwight Yoakam last night at a casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Great show. Dwight's multi-instrumentalist, Jamison Hollister (plays steel guitar, guitar, fiddle, keyboard, harmonica, mandolin) is a north Mississippi native and it seemed he had a very enthusiastic cheering section. He had some rowdy fiddle solos and they were going wild. It was cool.

In a couple weeks I'm seeing Marty Stuart at Graceland.

I dig what Sturgill, Tyler Childers, Margo Price, Stapleton...etc are doing in a big way. Dwight and Marty are still alive and well though and they are quickly becoming the old guard. I'm gonna take advantage while I can.

Is it so that you swung by Oslo on this tour? Wish I had known so we could have had a beer or two.

yeah i should have given you a heads up but i didn't have a lot of time... i was traveling w/ them on the tour bus, and we drove overnight from Stockholm to Oslo, and then Oslo to Copenhagen. i was only w/ them for those three shows. and after the Oslo gig, i walked down the street to have a beer w/ the Grails guys who were also in town (i saw their whole show in Stockholm too, and got to Sleep's show a bit later).

Fully understandable. I realize bands (and crew) usually dont have a lot of time to spend in each place when there are shows every night in the major cities of Scandinavian tours. Next time :)

And great pics, as always.
