I can't say much about the Games of Thrones Experience, but I did catch that 10/1 solo Neil Young show at the Tower Theater. The Tower was also the venue from my only other solo Neil show - back when Harvest Moon came out in 1992. That one was great and this one was just as good. Neil played songs on three different acoustic guitars (6 and 12 string), a banjo, an electric hollow body and a ukelele, plus two different grand pianos, an upright piano and his big pump organ, all while playing harmonica too. Stunning versions of Pocahontas, Tonight's the Night (on piano), Ohio (solo electric guitar) and Out on the Weekend, plus a bunch of other classics and super deep album cuts (he opened with Trip to Tulsa and Thrasher). Great sound, reverent audience, just an amazing night. Plus I got to hang with Bill in the lobby prior to the show. :)

Yesterday I went to The Tennessee Valley Fiddlers Convention in Athens, Alabama. I'd say there were at least 15,000 people there over the course of the day with contests for fiddle, guitar, banjo, etc and spontaneous jamming all around the festival grounds. It was a fun day.

Tomorrow night I'm headed to Nashville for the Sweetheart Of The Rodeo tour with Hillman, McGuinn and Marty Stuart.

I was at Mempho Fest on Saturday but regretfully missed Sunday due to family plans. Lucero was great. I really enjoyed the visual effects for Pheonix (a band that would normally not be my cup of tea), saw Beck (see my post on his 3dd page, and several good shows. The festival was sparsely attended, but I hope it continues; I much prefer its vibe to Beale Street Music Fest, the other one in my area.

Tomorrow night, I'm going to shoot for a double header: Roy Zimmerman, who is very funny, is playing an early house party; Screaming Females, who fucking rock, are playing downtown later. I'll see if I can take the kid.
