Going to see Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt tonight. I've seen Lyle with the Large Band twice, but never in the singer/songwriter style like this. First time to see John Hiatt, a long-time favorite.

Gonna check out a Sun Records themed show tonight at Lafayettes here in Memphis. John Paul keith, Chuck Mead, Sam's son Jerry Phillips, and Sun studio/ Jerry Lee Lewis' drummer J.M. Van Eaton will make up part of the band.

Fun night in a packed room that included some cool Memphians, including the author of the recent Replacements book, Bob Mehr.jr29 wrote:Gonna check out a Sun Records themed show tonight at Lafayettes here in Memphis. I was very pleased that the band absolutely ripped into several Carl Perkins tunes and the crowd reacted accordingly.
The highlight for me was late in the show when Chuck Mead led a raucous version of "Red Hot" by the great Billy Lee Riley. 80-ish year old J.M. Van Eaton was on drums at that point in the show and he played like a teenager. Fun rumor....Van Eaton turned down the drummer spot in Johnny cash's band because he had no interest in playing the train beat every night because he wanted to play rock and roll. W.S. Holland seemed to work out pretty well for Johnny anyway.

Turnpike Troubadours at an outdoor venue out in the woods down on the state line in April. Saw the Truckers at this same venue last year around the same time and it was great. Can't wait.

Saw them a couple of weeks ago in a small club and they were great. It was their first UK tour and really hoping they come back soon.Cole Younger wrote:Turnpike Troubadours at an outdoor venue out in the woods down on the state line in April. Karl Blau on Thursday was fantastic. Lots of old country covers and a few originals. Highly recommended if he comes anywhere near you.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
It was announced this week that Son Volt will be playing at the Lucero block party outside Minglewood Hall right here in Memphis, Tenn-O-See on April 22. I believe that show is worth the two mile trip I'd have to make.
I also plan on seeing SV in St. Louis next month....might even try to hit their Nashville show the night before.
