Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
David Lowery solo last night - a one off gig during his family holiday in Nova Scotia - some local players sat in for part of the set - after the show I asked him if he would ever consider scheduling the Camp In on the weekend before Homecoming - he laughed and said the 40 Watt crew would probably protest.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Went to the Hinterland Festival on Saturday. Located in St. Charles, Iowa (between Des Moines and Kansas City on I-35). It's the 4th one, and it just keeps getting better.
Tyler Childers - 45 minute set, but just awesome. At least half the songs were covers. Wheeler Walker and Sturgill sat in with him and they did Wheeler's "Sit on My Face". This dude will be headlining festival sets in 3 years.
J Roddy Walston & The Business - they kicked some serious ass. They really rocked hard, and brought out the Jerry Lee Lewis influence in a big way. I'm up and down on their studio work, but they were really good live.
Anderson East - a little slick for me, but he's really damn talented. Don't know that I'd go out of my way to see him, but don't skip it if it's he's at a festival you're attending
Margo Price - holy shit, was her band smoke. They jammed much harder than I had realized, and even brought out a second drum kit, which she would play on during the jams. Had a strong Allmans vibe going on.
Blackberry Smoke - Really fun, straight forward Southern rock. Reminded me a ton of the Black Crowes shows I've seen, without Chris Robinson's pretense.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - A wild, unique show. The horn section sounded phenomenal, and Rateliff is an absolute fireball. He really leaves it all out there.
Sturgill Simpson - I'm still in awe of what I saw. He's playing as a 4 piece these days (him on guitar plus a bass player, drummer, and organist). The organist was sick, so it was just a straight up power trio set. It was the most intense rock and roll jam I've ever seen in my life. One of the best guitar performances I've ever seen. I don't know where this guy is going next, but he might be the most talented dude in American/Rock & Roll whatever right now. Not to compare him to another Nashville Americana star, but he does not hold anything back in regards to his guitar playing, or set list. Reinventing tunes, kicking ass, taking names, and not giving any fucks. This is how it's done.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
I read this and thought, "That sounds amazing! I need to go to this." Not want, but need. Is it something I'll want to see more than once? More than once in a row? In more than one theater? From more than one location? I'm looking hard at the schedule, wondering what I can do. What do you think? Anyone else seen this?dogstar wrote:David Byrne last night - WOW, just WOW.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Kyle Craft was excellent at the Sub Pop SPF30 show. Best set I saw all day. Ran into him later on. Nice guy.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Just go. I can' t say how much I enjoyed this show. He's playing the big arena's over in the UK later this year and the only reason I'm not going is because I'm going to see Richard Thompson that night, not because of my usual dislike of big arena shows.John A Arkansawyer wrote:I read this and thought, "That sounds amazing!
