I saw Dolf de Borst (singer/bassist I think) from The Datsuns in May. He's spending a lot of time in Sweden and works with Nicke Andersson (former The Hellacopters/Entombed) a lot and plays bass with Nicke Andersson's solo project Imperial State Electric when they're playing live...he also co-wrote/co-sung a song on Imperial State Electric's self-titled album. He was really good live, and Nicke Andersson's a kickass live performer even if he doesn't like touring...
holy cow got out of work last night at 11:45 driving home down lincoln past lincoln hall recalled the heavy was playing show time 11:45 walked in , $14. cover small small room tiny stage blown away this band rocks like ... i don't have words. fierce, dirty, passionate, hot, jungle, sexy, loud, massive, fresh, pounding, smoklin', excellent walls were shaking madness. remind me of jimi hendrix some( musically) , the roots, and more... these cats should be big. maybe they will be. if they are in your town. catch it. fast. videos do not do justice...but watch 'em anyhow
The Hold Steady last night, at First Ave in Minneapolis. They're one of my favorite bands, and I've never seen a band have so much fucking fun on stage. Just a great, great show. The Whigs opened and they kicked all kinds of ass, too. I was lukewarm on the studio stuff I'd heard from them, but damn they were good live.
I skipped out on the two THS shows in WI last week, which I wouldn't have even considered doing a few years ago, but Heaven Is Whenever is so uninspiring that I opted out.

See it live. The production on the album is the problem with HIW. The songs are GREAT live. For example, We Can Get Together, which bores me to tears on the album featured a stunning Kubler solo live. Completely changed the song for me.

I think that they're pretty much across the board weaker songs, lyrically and everything. A few decent songs on the album, but nothing that made me say "I GOTTA hear this live!".

I thought the same thing. Then I heard it live.
...a long day of improbable and grotesque mischief
I'll also make time tonight to be in the Red Star Bar in the Lyric Theater as two bands play, one from Boston and one from New York City. The Weed Hounds are from New York and the Girlfriends are from Boston. If a fight breaks out between the two, expect the Weed Hounds to whip that Girlfriends butt, since New York beats Boston in baseball. http://www.myspace.com/weedhounds http://www.myspace.com/girlfriendsus http://catspurringms.blogspot.com/
I saw Uriah Heep last week at the Rams Head in Annapolis. It's a dinky place &those ancient Brits really rocked the joint. Sorta pissed me off that they didn't play Sweet Lorraine, but other than that; the dinosaurs ruled the night (and all of them pushing 60).
A thousand clusterfucks will not kill my tiny light

Damn I wish I could make this show in Knoxville next week. But am going to try and make James McMurtry at the Handelbar in Greenville SC next Fri night. And maybe the Felice Brothers next Tues in Asheville at the Grey Eagle.

this will be my first time for THS, but I advise you to see James Mc no matter what. He does not dissappoint!

Whigs/THS 2 of my favorite bands. Ive seen THS once, and it was a lot of fun.
Have never seen McMurtrry live, he has played around me a bunch in the last few years but its always a weekend where I am gone or already have plans to see another show. The stars should be aligned so that I have no interference next fri, as long as my wife doesnt go into labor, lol(she is due in about 3 weeks.)
