Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

A friend of mine recently gave me a heads up about a private show that took place at the Pinhook in Durham, NC last night. It was ok for me to also invite friends but you couldn't post about it online or on socials. The show was Waxahatchee with Kym Register (owner of the Pinhook) opening with her band Meltdown Rodeo (formerly known as Loamlands). We were asked not to film or take photos mainly so that we would "be in the moment" and because it was being filmed and recorded. Katie Crutchfield was backed by Spencer Tweedy, MJ Lenderman (of Wednesday), Brad Cook, and Phil Cook. It wasn't until Katie stepped up to the mic at the start of the show that any of us learned we were about to hear 12 brand new songs that had never been performed in front of a live audience before. I was blown away from that moment on as was everyone else in attendance. Not sure when the recording will be released but it'll something to keep an ear out for. That was one hell of a way to start off 2023 as far as live shows. I feel extremely flattered that my friend thought enough of me to clue me in on the show.

Benefit show tomorrow in Nashville put on by Oh Boy Records and various charities. Bill includes Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Arlo McKinley, Kelsey Waldon, and Sierra Ferrell among others. A friend at the venue hooked us up with a few tickets, which I’m thankful for because it sold out almost immediately.

Very excited for a show Saturday. I go every year, and it's consistently one of my very favorite shows of the year.

Terry Allen and the Panhandle Mystery Band at The Paramount in Austin.

The Paramount is a 100 year old theater (Houdini performed there) and is the perfect place to host so many Texas music legends on one stage. The Mystery band (usually) includes such stalwarts as: Lloyd Maines, Charlie Sexton, Shannon McNally, Richard Bowden, Glen Fukunaga. Always a few guests, over the years I've seen Ryan Bingham, Joe Ely...I've seen David Byrne and more.

Think they are planning to play the full album Smokin the Dummy in set one, followed by who knows what in the second half.
Love each other, Motherfuckers!

Just found out the show got cancelled. One of the women in the band has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Healing vibes to Fiona.

She seems to be in pretty good spirits all things considered from the social media. It was going to by a 1 day early bday present to myself. Doesn't look like I'll be in shape to do anything on the health front anyway. Waving the white flag & going to the doctor Friday morning. My next show is the Beths on Feb 17 so I should be back in fighting shape by then. Then the big event: Bruce on Feb 27. It'll be 45 years after my first ride with the Boss. Egads, I'm older than dirt!

This show was epic, as always. John Doe (from X) sat in for a while as well as Kurt Vile. Pretty cool night when you see Kurt Vile and Terry Allen covering Townes Van Zandt.

The Music Hall
It’s a benefit show. I don’t know why it is not on her site.

The Beths on Friday. I saw them last tour & they were excellent. This time they're backing their newest record which IMHO is their best. Playing very small clubs & have had to add shows due to ticket demand. They were very inexpensive, too. Only about $25. Will be a nice warm up for Springsteen at the end of the month.

Saw The Beths tonight. Fantastic band & show. I'll put up some pics tomorrow. The club stuck me in a chair at the side of the stage for ADA. Excellent!
