Who's Everyone Seeing Live?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

i got to see Cassie Berman sing Silver Jews songs last night w/ Peyton Pinkerton and Hallelujah The Hills as her backing band.

that was a special evening.

and as a bonus, before that show there was a separately ticket performance from Roger Miller (Mission of Burma, etc) where he played solo electric guitar.

I saw Margo Cilker w/ Gabe Lee at Cat's Cradle - Back Room in Carrboro back at the end of September. Margo was one of my most eagerly anticipated shows of the year and she didn't disappoint. Nor did Gabe Lee, who I was not the least bit familiar with. Something about him gave me a John Prine vibe. Then, for his last song, he did a cover of "The Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" so, I wasn't far off.

Tomorrow night I'm planning to see Anna Tivel w/ Lou Hazel at Bourgie Nights in Wilmington. So far, I've only heard her newest album (Outsiders) and a few stray cuts from her other records. I'm not familiar with Lou Hazel. This will be my first time to this venue. It looks like they tend to book a lot of artists that also come through the Triangle so I'm sure it won't be the last. Looking forward to it.

how was that? I was gonna watch it but went to the rescheduled Julia Jacklin show w/ my ladyfriend.

speaking of... that crowd was fucking annoying... not sure if it's just a generational gap or just how the 20 year old females that were in my vicinity acted.

The almost-twenty female with me at the show was well-behaved. :D

they couldn't stop giggling and talking during her show and then when the song ended hollered like it was their favorite thing they'd ever heard.

GBV in Holyoke

What's the 3rd?

And for the record, I made multiple attempts at the GBV show. I feel like I'm being portrayed as a flake. Not the case.

ah it sounded like you were at the JJ show last night at the Paradise.

no i am not pinning blame on you, i know you were rolling into Pavement late. GBV venue had shit data to text and i tried scanning the room a few times but to no avail. i was a bit of an outlier w/ camera gear though :)

Love Gabe Lee. Got turned onto him by Grady Smith's channel on YouTube a couple years ago and have enjoyed all of his work.

I know we have mixed feelings about Ryan Adams these days (both musically and personally), and I have not seen him on his current tour, but I will always tip my cap to a guy who is out there playing 35 songs a night.

His most recent setlist:

1. Oh My Sweet Carolina
2. Ashes & Fire
3. Everybody Knows
4. Two
5. Invisible Riverside
6. Gimme Something Good
7. The Rescue Blues
8. 16 Days (Whiskeytown song)
9. To Be Without You
10. Shaky Ground (Uncle Tupelo cover)
11. Dirty Rain
12. Dear Chicago
13. My Wrecking Ball
14. Save Me
15. Am I Safe
16. Wednesdays
17. Firecracker
18. Kim
19. New York, New York
20. Answering Bell
21. My Winding Wheel
22. Do I Wait
23. English Girls Approximately
24. Dancing with the Women at the Bar (Whiskeytown song)
25. Moving Target
26. Spinning Wheel
27. Walk in the Dark
28. Sauget Wind (Uncle Tupelo cover)
29. Carolina Rain
30. It's Not That Kind of Night
31. Dreaming You Backwards
32. Crossed Out Name (Ryan Adams & the Cardinals song)
33. Outbound Train
34. Brought To / Brotchu (Ryan Adams Improv song)
35. Come Pick Me Up
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I've definitely lost touch with what he's been up to in the past ~decade (I'm aware of the cancellation) but I'm sure he still puts on a great show. I used to collect recordings especially in the '05-06 era when RA&TC were just on fire. Great live act.

I saw a great show of his in the early aughts. He threw a complete hissy fit by the third song when some asshole kept yelling for Summer of 69. Stormed off and refused to return and his band left. About half the bar stormed out angry. He ended up returning and played solo/acoustic, standing on the bar. It was pretty awesome.

Years later I saw him and he just played a Bryan Adams cover when some other asshole yelled for Summer of 69 and won the crowd.

I'd see him again. I don't know if I should forgive, but I CAN forget. :) (thank you beer!)

For at least a decade, I been waiting, patiently, checking fairly often to see if my favorite punk-rock cover band, Me First and the Gimmie Gimmes are coming to town. I've never seen them live and been a fan for a long, long time. The wait is over. Friday. Friday and the Gimmies.

Finally getting close:

11/15 Cooley City Winery Boston
11/20 Van Morrison Shubert Theater Boston (this is kind of a last minute charity gig. Tix are correspondingly expensive but I think went on sale today)
11/29 Patterson Hood City Winery Boston

And yeah, Jay in New Haven was way cool on Saturday. Especially the second set. Plus New Haven pizza. What could be bad?

Totally worth the wait. Great show full of energy, joy and crowd-sing-a-longs. CJ Ramone (yes..from that band) played bass. A bunch of middle aged guys rocking out, making total fools of themselves and having a blast. I might have been quoted as saying, "THAT is what I want to be when I grow up!"

I saw him again last week. This tour has been a lot more impressive than the last few times I've seen him. The new songs sound fantastic, the band are excellent. There's no sense that he's just messing about, which I've had a few times in the past. Closes with Every Grain of Sand and there were people around me weeping.

It did have a weird sense of "this may be the last time" about it and I'm not sure why. Possibly just because the crowd are all aware of how old he is now.
