Who's Everyone Seeing Live?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

I had an unexpectedly fab time seeing a Danish noise pop band called Lowly last night.

Gov't Mule w/ Chris Robinson Brotherhood at the Tower Theater in Philly last night. 'Twas a huge rocker of a night. CRB opened with a solid set. Mule opened their night with "Dreams" and then "Thorazine Shuffle" which really blew everyone away. Chris sat in on the Black Crowes' "Sometimes Salvation"- another welcome surprise.

The best part of the show was the tributes to Chris Cornell. They covered "Fell on Black Days" which was so awesome and so right. Warren also paid tribute during "Lay Your Burden Down". Truly a great show. A time to rock out as well as mourn the passing of one our generation's rock legends.

They were incredible tonight. You're in for a treat. I believe I agree with the late Jim Dickinson, Tommy Stinson IS rock & roll.

I attended DelFest this weekend, and my favorite act wasn't anyone I'd ever even heard of. If you get a chance to see Chris Jacobs, you should go. The guy is incredible!

I've been meaning to check him out. I read two friends in mutually exclusive situations in Milwaukee and Chicago were raving on the Book of Face about his opening set for Greensky Bluegrass. Neither knew about him going into the show. Both are Milwaukee and Chicago musicians respectively of who I trust their taste in music. Both claimed that he was far superior to the headlining band. There has to be something there.

A few weeks ago in Dublin I saw The Selecter and The Beat. They are touring the UK and Ireland and alternating the headline slot each night. The Selecter were excellent. Pauline Black is a great frontperson, and has great stage presence. She's still in fine voice and it was an eight piece band. The band were very tight and had a great punch sound... excellent show. Each band is playing 90 minutes each, and the gig was about 30 euros, which for over here is great value I can tell you. Then the Beat came on. Now for me, The Beat had the edge over The Selecter, song wise. Ranking Roger has the rights to the name The Beat for UK/Ireland and Dave Wakeling has the rights to the name The English Beat for the US (he lives in California). Roger's son is now the second singer in the band and he's called Ranking Junior! The Beat were also great, not quite as much punch as the Selector (its a smaller band), but still great. The Beat released a strong new album last October and the track Side To Side in particular stand's well with their original song's. A great night, and they've just announced a new tour for next March, and will be back in Dublin in March... and I'll be there!

I didn't know this, explains a lot.

Anyway coming up this month:

KRAFTWERK
Krishna Das
Old Crow Medicine Show
The Jacksons

Plus probably and Otis Gibbs show and a Cale Tyson show.

Midnight Oil were amazing on Wednesday. The band has come roaring back & sound at least as good as back in the day. My ears are still ringing 2 days later. I hope they take this momentum & put out some new stuff. They did 24 songs over 2 hours including a big chunk of Diesel & Dust. There was a short acoustic set in the middle that rocked harder than most bands with a stage full of Marshall stacks. The set ender "Sometimes" is still 1 of my favorite songs of all time. It just smoked. There's some good videos up on youtube if you're interested. If you get a chance to see them, do it! Here's the setlist:
SETLIST SEATTLE
King of the Mountain

No Reaction

Brave Faces

Short Memory

Read About It

Sell My Soul

Stars of Warburton

Concrete

My Country

Luritja Way

Spirit of the Age

US Forces

Kosciusko

Only the Strong

The Dead Heart

Beds Are Burning

Blue Sky Mine

Truganini

Sometimes

Encore:
Jimmy Sharman's Boxers

Too Much Sunshine

Forgotten Years

Encore 2:
Warakurna

Dreamworld

that's a GREAT set list, and two encores! nice.

they played "Sometimes" as a request during the encore in Boston, scratching off something else.
