Lucero Family Picnic tomorrow outside Minglewood Hall in Memphis. I wanted to head to Columbia, Mo for the DBT show tonight, but Lucero and North Mississippi All Stars are gonna have to do.

Heard this on my local independent (yes, they still exist) radio station this AM on my way to the farm. I didn't realize Phish even put an album out in 2009, and I'm guessing there isn't a ton on there that I'll dig, but it seems on at least every album they pull out one or two great songs.

Maybe I'll get to see one of Jeff's meltdowns.

They were so much fun. I get a kick out of watching multi-instrumentalists do their thing. Jeff stuck to 6 and 12 sting guitar - everyone else in the band was constantly switching out horns for banjos for saw blades for accordions, etc, etc. Even the drummer had played 2 or 3 instruments by nights end. Great energy. Light and fun and laughing at themselves struggling with the constant swapping in and out and barely making their cues, while they worked their asses off all night. Jeff would put both hands over his heart between each song and thanked us for being "so kind' to he and his friends. Kinda sweet really.

Opener, Dot Wiggin Band. I'm way open minded about whatever music you want to make or listen to. Really, go ahead. But this… I just can't even. Part creepy religious family band, part Frank Zappa rip off. Pointlessly complicated and overtly striving towards weird. Also had weird fans who seemed to put a lot of effort into letting you know they were there for the opener and couldn't care less about NMH. Whatever.

Totally how I felt when I saw them last summer. The one old horn player who sang along to every song was a little distracting, but his energy and enthusiasm was contagious

This seems to be a trend with Mangum. Whoever opened for him last summer was pretentious, unlistenable dreck
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Amazing night in midtown Memphis. North Mississippi Allstars set the bare extremely high. Their set was unreal.
Lucero also came to play. They played a wonderful 2 hour set.
Ben Nichols did say that Lucero has been in studio for 3 weeks at Ardent in Memphis working on a new album.

Really good, fun show. My mate remarked after the show that all bands starting off should go and see George Clinton so they know what a proper show is - he's right. Just over two and a half hours of funk, lunacy and twin lead guitar awesomeness.

The Twilight Sad last night in Galway. I haven't been to a show since September, I think, and I'm almost surprised how much I missed going to them. Just getting swallowed up in the sound is such a reassuring thing.
