Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Just back in from the Afghan Whigs gig in Edinburgh and my ears are still bleeding! That was fucking loud! The group were absolutely cooking and Dulli was the ultimate showman, prowling the stage like a caged tiger. 90 minutes of punkfunk grooves culled from the current album(mostly) and Gentlemen, with a sprinkling from the other albums. Highlights were the last song of the encore, Faded (which also incorporated Bobby Womack's 110th Street) and Fountain and Fairfax.
I was a bit surprised to see two differing sides of Dulli's character tonight. About halfway through he had an argument with a fan who was filming the gig on his mobile phone, which meant a bright white light was shining in Dulli's eyes. The guy should count his lucky stars, 10 years or more ago Dulli would have taken him out!! Contrast this with him camping it up quite a few times during songs, flicking wrists, and hands on hips a bit like Jagger.
This is the fourth time I have saw him on stage over a 20 year period, and the first time he has been that flamboyant, but of course he carried it off brilliantly. Don't miss them when they come back to the States.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
Anders Parker and Jay Farrar with Gary Hunt last night.
Been looking to see Anders Parker for a long time, didn't even realize he was on the bill until I saw the merch table at the venue. I like his recorded music a lot but had no idea how good his voice and playing is. Seems like he's the kind of musician who puts a lot of time into getting everything he can out of every song with one voice and an acoustic. Less of a balladeer, more of a painter. Anyway...
Jay really went at his catalog. Uncle Tupelo, Guthrie, I think every Son Volt and solo album was represented, most of his side projects too. Was hoping for a little Gob Iron or New Multitudes collaboration with Andres Parker but it was not to be.
Jay stuck to 6 string acoustic all night, accompanied by Gary Hunt (who I believe recorded on Honky Tonk and currently tours with Son Volt). I always love watching the "multi instrumentalist" in the group and Hunt was a treat. He moved between fiddle, mandolin and some beautiful pedal steel through the night. But his mainstay was a slightly fuzzed Telecaster. Softly accenting Jay's acoustic at times, ass kicking honky tonk flourishes at others.
Only low was the mix on Jay and Gary. (Anders Parker sounded perfect) Jay had some static coming form his guitar and seemed a little trebly through the evening. The mix between he and Gary Hunt seemed a little off, but it being a most acoustic show in a small theater it didn't really matter.
High point was Still be Around. I can't even really identify what they did to that song that's so different from the recorded version we know but it was one of the saddest and most rousing songs I've seen performed in a long time. Powerful stuff. Such a great night.

Re: Who's Everyone Seeing Live?
I am so there, if he'll bring it to the states:
Ian Anderson celebrates the life and times of the English Agricultural inventor, Jethro Tull, with the announcement of a new series of concert tours beginning September 2015.
The shows tell the story of the original Jethro Tull’s life, reimagined as if in the near future and illustrated with Anderson’s best-known songs from the rock band Jethro Tull’s repertoire.
The performance is in a quasi-operatic structure with virtual guests on video and some additional newly-written songs to round off the elements of the story. Heavy Horses, Farm On The Freeway, Songs From The Wood sit alongside Aqualung, Living In The Past, Wind-Up, A New Day Yesterday, The Witch’s Promise, Locomotive Breath and other favourites – often with slightly re-written lyrics to better tell the tale.
Accompanied by David Goodier (bass), John O'Hara (keyboards), Florian Opahle (guitar), Scott Hammond (drums) and surprise virtual guests, Ian Anderson begins the touring schedule in the UK followed by Russian, European and South American dates before the end of the year.
Tour dates to be confirmed soon!
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

Really good show last night. Got the feeling they're trying out the new songs in Europe so they know how they work before they hit the bigger venues in the US but can't knock it. A full two hours including the bit when they jangle like REM, the bit where they sound like Nick Drake, the bit where they do a passable Jethro Tull impersonation and the stupid whale song thing.

Very nice. I dug the hell out of them at Homecoming. Unfortunately reaction was kind of mixed to them overall. Digging the record a lot.
