there's a groupon for that show here in charlotte, i've been debating going....i used to be hardcore into the whole turntablist scene back in the day & know both of those guys can kill it. Is it just both of them or is there an opener?

Edan and Paten Locke opened last night... not sure if they are on the whole tour (they both have Boston roots, so it might have just been a one off, but maybe not).

what makes this tour so special is that they are playing records from the personal collection of Afrika Bambaataa, and the accompanying visuals were spot-on.

Shadow and CC worked so well together. i would definitely recommend going. it's a pretty unique event.

yea, those 2 did the whole brain freeze album that was really good too....i'll have to go check it out, thanks!

Jimbo Mathus tomorrow at the Hi Tone in Memphis, Tenn-O-See.
Might even try to catch a bit of North Mississippi Allstars at the Levitt Shell before heading to the Hi Tone.

Rod Abernethy (Arrogance, Glass Moon) has been hosting a monthly concert series at Neptune's Parlour in Raleigh for the past few months. Last night's guests were members of the Connells (clip from last night below). Future guests will be Don Dixon, the Backsliders, Jeff Hart and Robert Kirkland.

Since I was volunteering I didn't get to see every single band but the folks I was working for were very lenient about allowing us to pretty much come and go as we pleased. However, all of the volunteers wanted to see Jack White so I took one for the team by staying behind to help helm the backstage merch booth during his set. So, in addition to Jack White, I missed Gary Clark, Jr., Delta Rae, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Jesse Lenat, Insects vs Robots and the Raelyn Nelson Band. Artists I did see were Todd Snider, Carlene Carter, Jamey Johnson, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Willie Nelson. I was also able to see most of the press conference prior to the music getting underway. The entire experience was very rewarding, especially learning more about Farm Aid itself. It also didn't hurt that we were fed like kings with locally grown organic food throughout the entire event. I could certainly get used to that. Some video has started to surface both from fans and the official Farm Aid YouTube channel. Last I checked, it appeared that a great deal of Gary Clark, Jr.'s set had been uploaded to the official channel.

i can't believe that he played the 930 club in DC, and he's playing Great Scott (capacity ~150 ppl) in Boston. should be a complete shit show, even moreso than last year's Fuzz set at the same club.

this is good listening:

Oh nice, I'd love to see him at a venue that small! You going? The 9:30 Club was pretty packed last night - a lot more people than I expected.

Thanks for the link to the WTF interview - gonna listen this afternoon :)

American Aquarium's set was quite slow but I think it's just that type of venue. I'm not a big fan of going to shows where I have to sit at a table, but both sets were so mellow that it seemed to make sense. Justin Townes Earle has a fantastic voice and his pedal steel player was really, really good. The crowd was very quiet and the sound at the Birchmere is great.

Too bad we picked different nights, I would have liked to see you! Plus, you still owe me two bucks. ;) Have fun tonight and tell Paula I said hi.

They're top of my bucket list and Fripp can't even be bothered to play in the UK. Apparently there aren't any rooms in the UK with the correct resonant frequency (or something).
