Bad ass. I thought of drawing something similar with characters from DBT songs & seeing if we could all figure it out, but I was stoned at the time and I've since given up smoking (pot) so it'll never happen.

The thing about the Dexateens (the blessing and the curse, in its way) is they have never tried to be anything except themselves.

Given the Alabama-based band’s tried-and-proven abilities to rock like the sun is never going to rise again and then turn around and play it all raggedy-assed sweet like a Ronnie Lane Valentine, the Dexateens could have easily been some sort of slick Southern Rock gods of the above-ground world if they’d chosen to be.

But then they wouldn’t be the Dexateens, would they? No, they wouldn’t.

Since 1998 the band has dwelled in a place where twang, thrash and the British Invasion all coexist, while a bondo-fendered ’67 GTO and a flying saucer sit on concrete blocks out in front of the trailer. And while the outside world might expect songs about throwing empty Rebel Yell bottles at road signs, the Dexateens offer up center-of-the-soul honesty and insight (often slathered with feedback gravy).

Take the newly-released Sunsphere, an 8-song EP that was actually recorded in a 3-day-long explosion of blistering brilliance in a Birmingham basement back in 2009. Crazy-assed punkbuddy Tim Kerr was on hand while the tape rolled (think sous-chef-with-a-flame-thrower): warts were celebrated; chances were taken; ya-yas were exorcised; and a bushel basketful of 12AX7 and 6L6 tubes no doubt gave their lives to the cause.

Entire review here: http://www.jambands.com/reviews/cds/2013/12/03/dexateens-sunsphere

Looking forward to the upcoming full-length.
Let's play now ... we can tune up later.

You should fly to the states and catch them since you're a millionaire now. Haha. Good chance the Dexateens open for DBT later this year.

Some of you won't be able to see that. It's a nice plaque. It'd be a lot nicer if they'd paid him to make his own, though. He does fine work.

I sure wish I'd had Sunsphere in my life before Tuesday night. This is a great little record. I haven't played anything much in the car since getting it at the show, and now I'm hunting down tracks on YouTube to listen to in the office. Are the lyrics around? I've got "Constantine" on my mind.

Has anyone read or know where we can get a copy of Rattler's new album? I've searched and haven't found anything. I'm also so excited for the new Dexateen album!

An Nashville the night before. Wouldn't you know it though it's the one weekend we have pretty much immovable plans and the night of the Birmingham show is Todd Rundgren in our favorite venue in Jackson. We had to make a call, what's more rare the Dexateens in Birmingham or Todd Rundgren in a 500 person venue in Jackson? Sorry Elliott and company, love ya but next time.

Listened to a lot of 'teens recently.

If "Take Me to the Speedway" was written by Patterson and recorded by DBT, would it be in the band's Top 10? That song is the tits
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I came late to the Dexateens party late, but simply can't get enough. Gritty, punk, twangy driving guitars with some killer Patton bass. "Live at the Nick" on YouTube has been my shaving background music for many days out of the last several months. Good stuff!

Who, if anyone, is thinking about making next weekend's Nashville/Birmingham extravaganza? I'm pretty well decided on Birmingham but probably skipping Nashville unless someone convinces me otherwise.

(Or maybe hitting Nashville and skipping Birmingham etc etc.)

I have to be in Little Rock at 10 AM the morning of the 30th to teach sex ed to fourth through sixth graders, so finding someone driving from Birmingham to Memphis/Little Rock is important.

If someone from my neck of the woods is on the fence about driving out and back, let's talk.
