Lyrics to "Take Me To The Speedway"
Does anyone have them/know them? I'm finding a few words hard to determine.

Re: Lyrics to "Take Me To The Speedway"
this is what i can tell:
it's a shame, it's a sin
I don't care if that's the way it's always been
Drop that flag, pack it in
I tell ya some things just don't need to rise again
and I been told
I been told
I been told to leave it alone
I see your Haley (Barbour?), I see your Trent (Lott?)
I see a rich man but he hates to pay his rent
Hey Judge Roy (Moore), you sacred son
Blue-eyed Jesus with a bible and a gun
and I been told
I been told
I been told to leave it alone
Rebel man, Alabam
Get's so hard sometimes to give a damn
Take me to the shoreline, dip me in the warm brine,
wash away the bad times
Take me to the speedway, drive me through the red clay
We'll just go in circles everyday
I could be completely off.

You could be, but I don't believe you are. I believe you straightened out the line that had me most puzzled ("I see you Haley, I see your Trent"). I do have one change--I think the next line is "I see a rich man peddle hate to pay his rent". Other than that, I believe you are right on. Thank you! When I wander around singing a song, I like to get the lyrics right.

Nice to find that this post popped up on Google after searching for the lyrics (3DD is the best). I've been spinning Red Dust Rising this week and been wearing out Take Me to the Speedway. The lyrics are biting, the music is stellar, and FWIW I agree with Smitty's translation and interpretation. I always felt that the Dexateens were like if the Truckers' kid brothers started a band. I wish I could've seen them in person.

They're doing some dates supporting the new record. I saw them here in Little Rock with a piss-poor crowd--actually, the crowd was great. There just weren't enough of us there--at the White Water this summer. I didn't think that'd ever happen in my lifetime.Sterling Big Mouth wrote:Nice to find that this post popped up on Google after searching for the lyrics (3DD is the best). Thanks, John A! Because of your post I just found out that they're playing in NYC in November. Thank you for helping me catch that! And while this should be in a different thread, I wonder why DBT didn't get a NYC tour date for the new record....

I scream "peddle hate to pay his rent" when I sing along.Smitty wrote:this is what i can tell:
