Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

I'm happy to say that this 60's list was a lot easier to do than i thought. I just know the 70's one is gonna be a monster (easily over 100 albums on my "short list" w/out even trying yet) and i haven't even thought about the later decades, but this one fit almost snugly into a "top 40" format w/ only a few unruly albums peeking out around the edges. I'm even sorta satisfied w/ the order, at least for now:

1. The Rolling Stones – Let It Bleed
2. Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited
3. The Beatles – Abbey Road
4. The Band – The Band
5. Van Morrison – Astral Weeks
6. John Coltrane – A Love Supreme
7. Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde
8. The Rolling Stones – Beggar’s Banquet
9. The Beatles – The White Album
10. The Beatles – Rubber Soul
11, The Beatles – A Hard Day’s Night (UK Version)
12. Jimi Hendrix – Electric Ladyland
13. James Brown – Live at the Apollo
14. BB King – Live at the Regal
15. Bob Dylan – Bringing It All Back Home
16. The Rascals – Time Peace
17. CCR – Willie and the Poorboys
18.. Jimi Hendrix – Are You Experienced
19. The Beach Boys – Pet Sounds
20. The Rolling Stones - Aftermath
21. The Jeff Beck Group – Truth
22. Dusty Springfield – Dusty in Memphis
23. Otis Redding – Dictionary of Soul
24. Neil Young & Crazy Horse – Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
25. The Who – Tommy
26. Ray Charles – Modern Sounds in Country & Western Music
27. Bob Dylan – Freewheelin’
28. The Band – Music From Big Pink
29. Johnny Cash – At Folsom Prison/At San Quentin
30. John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers – With Eric Clapton
31. Simon & Garfunkel – Bookends
32. Flying Burrito Brothers – Gilded Palace of Sin
33. Cream – Disraeli Gears
34. Blind Faith – Blind Faith
35. Traffic – Traffic
36. Moby Grape – Moby Grape
37. Blood, Sweat & Tears – Child is Father to the Man
38. Elvis Presley – ’68 Comeback Special/From Elvis in Memphis
39. CCR – Green River
40. The Who – The Who Sell Out

60’s soul is best represented in collections, particularly Hitsville, Vol. 1 (Motown) and the Atlantic and Stax/Volt complete singles boxes, though Otis and Ray Charles did make it on to the list once each, and Aretha’s I Never Loved A Man (The Way That I Love You) is a tough omission. Sweetheart of the Rodeo is another tough omission, but to me the Byrds are also best represented by their singles and their definitive box set. While the Beach Boys got a single mention above, their early wonderful singles are collected a million different ways and Endless Summer is one great one. The Kinks are probably the toughest omission of all, but again, I like their singles better than their albums and Kink Kronikles will undoubtedly be on my 70’s list if I “allow myself” to include compilations/greatest hits-type albums. Something New and Village Green Preservation Society would be the two to include if I included any. The Who Sell Out may be the biggest question mark for me, and might better be replaced by the early 70’s collection Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy.

Tough one, but I have to go with The Beatles Live! at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962

However, it wasn't released until 1977 so I'll go with Meet The Beatles as back-up.
