The Dream Syndicate -- I caught most of the bands from that era but for some reason never got around to seeing The Dream Syndicate. I loved their first album. Still do.
Bob Marley and the Wailers -- I was going to concerts when he did his final US tour -- opening for Earth Wind and Fire if memory serves me right, so I have no real excuse. One consolation is that I did see Peter Tosh.
Ozzy Osborne with Randy Rhodes -- A friend of mine was going and had an extra ticket. First tour. I think the concert was before his first solo album was released but not quite sure. I did something else that night and the fact that I can't remember what proves it was the wrong decision.
The Velvet Underground reunion -- I should have known Lou Reed would break up the band before the US tour. Should have bought a plane ticket and saw them in Europe. Sterling Morrison is dead. I will never see The Velvets.
Rockpile -- The opportunities were there.
Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and any number of country icons who are departed. A word to the wise: if you've never seen Willie Nelson, Tom T Hall, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn or any other country icon still playing live, do it the first chance you get. These people won't be around forever.
Bo Diddley -- So damn many opportunities to see Bo Diddley in my life. Always figured I'd get around to it sooner or later. If you've never seen Chuck Berry, Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis, do it now.
Jackie MacLean -- My all-time favorite alto player. Always thought I'd catch Jackie Mac the next time around.

That's the utter shame of my concert-attending career and something I'll regret as long as I live.
I was 17 at the time, living in a small town about two hours away (just across the Okla./Ark. line). Here's why I couldn't go: My friend who was going to go (and drive) pussed out, there was a blizzard that night, and worst of all...
My mom wouldn't let me use her car.
How punk rock is that?

Chuck Schuldiner (guitarist/vocalist for Death)
Celtic Frost
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Screaming Trees
Vic Chesnutt - He played my state last year on a bill with Jonathan Richman and I didn't go.
Johnny Cash (there's a story here) - At the IL state fair in 1977, there were two musical acts the day my family went. One was Johnny Cash. The other was Glen Campbell. I implored my parents to bring us to Johnny Cash but my dad chose Glen Campbell. (The schedule was such that we couldn't see both.) I was 8 at the time and had other chances later so I kick myself for those later missed opportunities.

Re: Artists you kick yourself for because you never saw them
i might have had the chance to see the Wipers at some point, but didn't. found out about 'em after they broke up. ditto for Savage Republic and Songs:Ohia.
missing the Chameleons' reunion tour in '01 or so remains a massive sore spot for me, and i have no good excuse as to why i didn't go see 'em. love that band.
Coil played Dublin about 5 months after i left, and Jhonn Balance died a few months after that gig.
there are plenty of bands i'd wished i'd seen earlier.

Interesting. I heard he was the one who suggested the name 'Led Zeppelin', but I'm pretty sure one John Henry Bonham broke sticks and wore the shit out of the skins behind the ol' kit for Plant, Page, and Jones.

Bill Monroe, 1995.
He came to Lexington, Kentucky, but I went to Memphis to see the Grateful Dead that weekend.
Rick Danko, 1999.
He was in Lexington, KY for two shows. Heard he was in bad shape, nodding out on stage. At the time said I was glad I didn't go. Two days later, he died.
Johnny Cash 1995.
Lexington, KY. Decided to go to a bar instead. Pathetic 22 yrs old mind at the time.

The Clash (the fucking CLASH!!) in 1981. not bitter. no not at all.
I've never taken a pissbreak during a DBT show but if I had it would have been during Dancing Ricky.

Frank Zappa
Johnny Cash
Jerry Lee Lewis-Played the late great Circle W Ballroom in my hometown back in about '71. I wasn't old enough to get in.
Elvis-My dumb ass just passed on seeing the King not once but twice. '75 (?) & '76

Re: Artists you kick yourself for because you never saw them
My # 1 regret:
I had tickets to that Replacements show (The Fillmore in 87)in my hands but I was not able to make it. I lived in SLC at the time and used to buy the Chronicle and LA Times on Sunday to see what shows I was missing in CA. So a couple of buddies and a chick we knew (we were all Mats fanatics) bought our tickets by mail and were all set for the 12 hour drive but the jackasses all dropped out a couple of days before for various reasons and I could not afford to go alone. Pathetically the exact same thing had already happened in 85 for the Tim tour at the I-Beam with the same group of people. And in 1984 The Replacements were scheduled to play The University of Utah Union Ballroom but they canceled 2 days before. My favorite band 1984--89 was the Mats and I had tickets in my hand 3 times and never got to see them.
Looks like a bunch of little whiny fucksticks to me
