Music that makes you irrationally angry

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

jimmyjack wrote:Weirdly, I recently decided that the 'Coog's band circa Lonesome Jubilee is overdue for a critical reassessment. I get that he's the poor man's Springsteen, but "Check It Out" and "Cherry Bomb are great singles, yall. And I think I'd still rep for Scarecrow, though haven't actually listened to it in over a decade.
This makes me happy. He also covered one of my favorite Terry Reid songs, "No Expression", around that time (Lonesome Jubilee era).

Scarecrow was the first CD I actually owned myself; got it the same day I got Copperhead Road on cassette.

" Check it Out" is probably my favorite Coug song.

I generally think John Mellencamp is a douche but he doesn't make me irrationally angry unless Pink Houses comes on the radio.

Kinda have a thing for this song though.

i don't think finn's aggressive approach to the vocals is a good fit for the song

I've never had any particular dislike for Seger (or the Eagles). I can understand how people of that era would.

I've probably posted it in here before, but Connor Oberst is my main "makes you irrationally angry" artist. His vocal styling is just infuriating to me. He literally sounds like a snivelly brat when he sings. To my ears.

Ray LaMontagne fills that slot for me

On the other hand, I do like Conor Oberst

Perhaps I would feel differently if I grew up in a generation when that song was released, but that song just makes me happy when I hear it. I understand that it isn't intellectually complex, but when it comes on it just makes me want to dance and reach for a drink.

I really like earlier Bright Eyes and don't have a major aversion to Ray Lamontagne. ("Jolene, "Beg Steal and Borrow", and "How Come" are really well written songs to these ears)

Three strikes, I'm a douchebag?

I want to punch that poser greaser Billy Joel in the stomach for some reason. I'm not really sure why though.

I definitely don't mind the music. I just can't get over his persona and vocals.

I love Oberst and LaMontagne but absolutely understand why people wouldn't.

That said, I think I Oberst has decidedly grown out of his early persona.
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

Love a few Seger songs, but I also dig the Eagles, so what do I know?

Or should it be, what do I care? ;)

Old Time Rock and Roll does suck, though I dig Main street.

Off the top of my head, a couple songs that make me just completely and irrationally angry are these:

and the antithesis of "Filthy and Fried":

I'm with Smitty - Hate Old Time Rock 'n Roll but like Main Street.

I used to work in a pool hall / bowling alley at college and every single person (young, old, thin, fat, cool, not) would play Old Time Rock 'n Roll. Good lord I hate that song.

Seger is way inconsistent. All those songs have in common is nostalgia. They make massively different use of it.

She said, "I can't believe it. You can't possibly mean it. Don't we all want the same thing? Don't we?" Well, who said anything about love? "No, not love," she said. "Don't you know that it's different for girls?"

The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

Haha....I'm from the same little spot in rural western Tennessee that brought us Darryl Worley. (only 40-50 miles from the Shoals) George Jones cut one of his songs, but he totally got sucked into the Nashville thing.
I actually worked with his wife at Pusser's Restaurant in Adamsville, Tennessee when I was in high school. I'm pretty sure she is an ex-wife now.
