Music that makes you irrationally angry

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Gave "The New Basement Tapes" album a listen last night and had to shut it off after 4 or 5 songs. What a piece of crap. "Bland and inoffensive" was what I kept reading in reviews, but that doesn't do justice to how bad it is. T-Bone Burnett sucks, Elvis Costello really sucks, Jim James needs to stop with the cutesy, cooing vocal style, and everyone else is pretty much wasted. Dylan must be rolling over in his grave.*

I watched the video. I'm in full support of the vigorous slapping.

Thanks for giving me a good laugh Beebsy baby.

A self professed non ragey man wants to go to the bother of hunting down and slapping a singer.

And also thanks for resurrecting a thread that lay dormant for 6 months until yesterday, allowing me to quickly flick through it to find that probably the two most frequent posters in the thread about irrational anger are Iowan and Zip City.

You couldn't make it up.

Hey, I own my irrational anger. I'm not above it, and I'm not saying you should be other.

Just be honest about it.

As I said in the other thread, dont make the mistake of judging people to your own standards.

i don't know anything about Mr DeMarco aside from his silly/foolish public persona, but i guess i'll get to judge for myself in a couple of weeks when i see him at Solid Sound.

Perhaps you missed the "irrational" part. Must be a cultural thing.

Nope, and I didn't stop reading after "irrationally" either, there was another word and everything!!!! It had 5 letters too, and not 4, but it was just like rage.

"Rage may refer to: Rage (emotion), an intense form of anger"

The Decemberists. In terms of preciousness, Colin Meloy makes Ben Gibbard sound like Mark Lanegan.

Low blow  Love the Decemberists, feel the opposite for anything Gibbard, but can totally see how one could feel that way. Seeing them with Calexico in 6 days at one of the coolest outdoor venues around, the Britt Pavilion in Jacksonville, Oregon.

just hit me that I feel that way about Mumford.... thankfully they are easy enough for me to almost completely avoid (hopefully Neil won't invite them to Bridge again)

"Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers was playing in the grocery store this morning.

It made me irrationally angry.

Weirdly, I recently decided that the 'Coog's band circa Lonesome Jubilee is overdue for a critical reassessment. I get that he's the poor man's Springsteen, but "Check It Out" and "Cherry Bomb are great singles, yall. And I think I'd still rep for Scarecrow, though haven't actually listened to it in over a decade.

I saw that tour (in Knoxville) and it was really stellar. Saw it right before going to a bunch of GD spring tour shows and I enjoyed it almost as much as some of those shows, and for me then that was saying something. I've seen him a bunch since and none of the shows have come close to that tour. That band was top-notch, too bad he couldn't keep it together. I still can recall the show opening Paper in Fire as if it were yesterday!

Scarecrow holds up. Title track was Sinkhole 20 years before Sinkhole. Lonely Old Night and Minutes to Memories are stellar too. Another hot one out on Highway 11...

I wrote a review of Scarecrow and the Dead Kennedys' Frankenchrist in which my main point* was that Frankenchrist was more radical but Scarecrow was more subversive.

*aside from them both being really good records
