Bonnarnoo Schedule, help me out on decisions

Post by dee dee »

One of my favorite things to do, decide what shows I am going to see. I need some help deciding on some. I'm sure I'll have a great time, but this year's lineup does not give me that excited feeling in my loins like last year's did.

Thursday
4:30-5:30 The Entrance Band
5:30-6:30 Elizabeth Cook
7-8:15 Local Natives or Manchester Orchestra?
8:30-10 Neon Indian, The Dodos or Tiny Animals?
10:15-11:15 Blitzen Trapper
11:30-1 The XX or Lotus?
1-2 Josh James

Friday
12-1 Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue
1:45-2:45 The Gaslight Anthem (wish I could see Carolina Chocolate Drops)
2:45-3:30 Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes
4-5:15 Dr. Dog
Squeeze in a bit of She and Him
5:45-7:15 The national
7:15-8:30Tori Amos, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Les Claypool?
8:30-9:30 Dawes
9:30-11:30 Kings of Leon or The Bakerton Group?
12-1:30 - The Black Keys (Same GD time as The Flaming Lips doing DSOTM)
Squeeze some Galactic in
2:30-4 LCD Soundsystem

Saturday

12:15-1:15 Langhorne Slim
Until 2:45 Big Sam's Funky Nation, Baaba Maal or Brandi Carlile?
3:15-4:30 Dave Rawlings Machine
4:45-6:15 The Avett Brothers
6:45-8:15 The Dead Weather, Weezer, Jeff Beck, or John Prine
8:30-10:30 Stevie Wonder
11:30 -2 Jay Z, Dan Deacon Ensemble, Thievery Corp., or Clutch
2:15-5:30 Deadmau 5, The Disco Biscuits, GWAR, or sleep?

Sunday
12:15-12:45 Danny Barnes acoustic
1:15-2 Calexico
2-3 Lucero
3-4:30 Against Me, Jamey Johnson, or Blues Traveler?
4ish to 6:30 John Fogerty, Ween, Dropkick Murphys, or Kris Kristofferson?
6:30 to 9 Zac Brown Band, Phoenix, Rise Against, Miranda Lambert, or MMW?

I've never got the chance to see Prine so I wouldn't pass it up, but in a festival setting Dead Weather would probably put on the better show, so either one I guess - I haven't took the time to listen to The Dead Weather yet but I haven't heard anything that Jack White's been involved with that I haven't liked so I'm sure I'll dig them - I can't stand Weezer anymore and I dig Jeff Beck alright but it'd have to be either Prine or Dead Weather

With the exception of Jamey Johnson, that's how I'm leaning. I'm actually leaning towards Blues Traveler there although I'll probably let my son pick that one.

I'm pretty sure I agree with you on the sleep thing. I'm betting my son wants to see Deadmau5 though.

Oh how I wish MMJ was playing... that would make the festival so much better. MMW is Mediski, martin, and Wood. Talented musicians but too much nooding and improv for me after 3 and 1/2 days of music. I have Phoenix's album but it just hasn't hit me, same with Miranda Lambert. I'm leaning towards Rise Against just because I think it will be super energetic and I'll be tired.... I've also heard Zac Brown is really good live, but the radio songs just make me ill.

And I've never seen Flaming Lips, but they are performing Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. I've started to enjoy Flaming Lips in certain moods, but no where near as much as I do Black Keys.

Just not a Blues Traveler fan at all - the only Against Me! track I've heard is their cover of OCMS's "Wagon Wheel"; I just don't think they'd be my thing. I loathe KOL and what I've heard of the Disco Biscuits

go see Baaba Maal, unless you have an aversion to having your mind blown

Disco Biscuits and Blues Traveler: easily two of the worst bands I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. Just the thought of John "400 pounds of" Popper and his harmonica from hell makes me wanna puke.

I actually must be the only one on here who enjoys a little Blues Traveler. The only way I could enjoy Disco Biscuits is in a haze.

they are awesome, though I don't really think of them as a jam band. They write songs too well to be called a jam band

They play a ton of jamband festivals though, but agreed, def not a jamband.

And I like Gaslight anthem alot, but if you have seen them before and not the chocolate drops, check out the chocolate drops. They put on a great show. At that time of day too, i would go see the chocolate drops. Def Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers too. Wouldnt miss that. Too close go with MMW, nice and mellow and a good band. If I was on mushrooms, Disco Biscuits at 215, but if not then sleep. And cant say that langhorne slim would get me up and at it at 1245, Id skip him. Wasnt too impressed with his show. Id skip the national and eat some grub and get my energy ready for lcd soundsystem latenight, also another reason to skip langhorne slim in the morning. John Prine over Dead Weather. But hey, not too many bad decisions wherever you end up all weekend. I usually only do 1 must see a day and try and hit up different stuff all weekend.

Check out the screening of Secret to a Happy Ending, that will be cool.

I'm going to go to Baaba Maal. John Prine wins out, although if i'm miserable hot I may go to see the DBT movie. I really like Neon Indian. Son likes Entrance Band, so I'm stuck there. My wife thinks I have about a .002 percent chance of getting lucky with Elizabeth Cook. Friday is going to be insane. The National, The Black Keys, LCD Soundsystem, Gaslight Anthem, and Dr. Dog on the same day. Oh, and I can't wait to see big the crowd is for The Bakerton Group (only other show during Kings of Leon). Someone mentioned how there is no other shows during Dave Matthews Band. I think there is a folk thing at the Solar Stage I may check out... or the NBA playoffs. But hate to finish off Roo by doing that. I'll prob check out DMB and people watch.

Anybody going, hope I can catch you. I'm really short (5'5" and shrinking), have a little bit of a belly, will be wearing my Todd Snider hat and will have my 17 year old son with me.

What happens at Bonnaroo, stays at Bonnaroo.
