i didn't know anything about the guy before i shot his set at Boston Calling last year and by the response of the teenage girls crammed at the rail, screaming and crying, tears rolling down their faces - well, you would have thought it was the Beatles in '64. it was pretty insane.
Holy shit! This guy's got 6 songs, SIX, with more than 100,000,000 listens on Spotify alone. One has had over 600,000,000! And I never heard of him until this thread. He's now in the cue because SIX but i have no idea who he is or what he sounds like.tinnitus photography wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 1:32 pmi didn't know anything about the guy before i shot his set at Boston Calling last year and by the response of the teenage girls crammed at the rail, screaming and crying, tears rolling down their faces - well, you would have thought it was the Beatles in '64. it was pretty insane.brettac1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 5:12 pmI like him but yeah it's nothing earth-shattering.Mundane Mayhem wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 11:17 am
I was trying to see what all the hype was about with this record and just couldn't. It's passable and inoffensive.
Three songs (w/ a total of over a billion listens) in and I'm clueless and near the end of my patience and willingness to sacrifice for music. If this stuff makes teenage girls cry I don't know who I feel more sorry for, teenage girls or teenage boys. But I fully acknowledge that I am not the intended audience.beantownbubba wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 2:00 pmHoly shit! This guy's got 6 songs, SIX, with more than 100,000,000 listens on Spotify alone. he now lives in watertown, but w/ all those spotify checks rolling in, he might be your neighbor soon.beantownbubba wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 2:25 pmThree songs (w/ a total of over a billion listens) in and I'm clueless and near the end of my patience and willingness to sacrifice for music. My apologies to all the musicians who did not get my .003 cents while i listened to this.
PS While now being 5 songs in, I have now learned that Noah has over 37 million monthly listeners on Spotify, is from VT (damn, I really want to root for him), has garnered "global renown" and has sold out an upcoming (currrent?) stadium and arena tour. He also describes himself as having a "self-deprecating sense of humor." There's got to be a word for that. Not exactly an oxymoron. Not quite hubris. Not literally delusional. But maybe some combination.
Heve you checked out real estate prices in Watertown lately?tinnitus photography wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:27 pmhe now lives in watertown, but w/ all those spotify checks rolling in, he might be your neighbor soon.
I got turned onto him by my sister who is 33 but we're young at heart in this family.beantownbubba wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:54 amHeve you checked out real estate prices in Watertown lately?tinnitus photography wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:27 pmhe now lives in watertown, but w/ all those spotify checks rolling in, he might be your neighbor soon.
BTW, my comments on Kahan probably came across as more negative than I intended. I was comparing what I was hearing to the numbers and other evidence of popularity/hype I was reading about and it seems like a large gap. But as to the music itself I think mundane mayhem pretty much nails it with "passable and inoffensive."
