Now the Indians are dressed up like cowboys
And the cowboys are putting leather and turquoise on
And when he'd smell the smoke and the cinders
He'd slick back his hair, and open up his case
He'd play the Cherokee Fiddle, he'd play it for the whiskey
'Cause good whiskey never let him lose his place
Now the Indians are dressed up like cowboys
And the cowboys are putting leather and turquoise on
And when he'd smell the smoke and the cinders
He'd slick back his hair, and open up his case
He'd play the Cherokee Fiddle, he'd play it for the whiskey

Written by the great Michael Martin Murphey. I prefer his version but it's a hard song to mess up.
And late 1970's- early 1980's slick country listening should include the Kendalls, so I'll give their greatest hits a listen.

Moe Bandy was the man when I was little shit back in the 70’s. His songs instantly transport me to sitting in my grandpas pickup truck, bumping down the road to go fishing. Good times

Moe Bandy rules.
I also love the Bellamy Brothers with zero irony. Kids Of The Baby Boom is an incredible song. David Bellamy wrote that in the 1980’s and I think it was appropriate then and now. Old Hippie is damn near as good and one of the brothers wrote it too.
Zero cheese factor when I listen to that stuff.

Oh hell yea the Bellamy Brothers are another favorite.
well according to Discogs (i try to avoid using Amazon as much as possible, and certainly not for records) the only US issue this one:
and clicking on the 'copies for sale' link has only UK sellers. I am not gonna drop over $60 for a copy... luckily i found a sole US seller w/ yellow vinyl copy for about $35 shipped. still pricy but i needed that record.
