Saw them play live once and I think it must have been around when this album came out. Played it a lot back then but haven't listened to it in years. Gonna break it out again this weekend and give it a spin or two. There was another great shoe gaze (sort of) band around that time called The Boo Radleys. Think I got into them first, before "discovering" Spiritualized.
Shoegaze had been a big blind spot for me until a year or so ago. Have immersed myself in it and love it. Still lots of bands and offshoots to discover. Are you familiar with Ride, Swervedriver and Slowdive? Along with My Bloody Valentine, they are kind of the giants/pioneers of the genre. Took what Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. were doing across the pond and put their own swirl on it.

The Hold Steady - Open Door Policy
First listen. If you liked Thrashing Thru The Passion and the Craig Finn solo albums, I can't see how you wouldn't like this. A lot.

Never really took a deep dive into that scene, so those bands I am aware of only in the name, not really the music, apart from My Bloody Valentine which I have seen live one or two times back in the days.

I watched the Hold Steady last night. Wasn't too impressed. I'm old & weird (thank God) but much like the National, I don't "get" the Hold Steady. More power to you if you like them but I don't think I'd ever play either band more than once. Too much other stuff to listen to & too little time.

Two lightning rod bands on 3DD. I like 'em both, but connect much more with both bands' earlier records.
