Rick Rubin looked at the market trends and told the Avetts that it was now financially advantageous to be "woke". These guys do better with naive, treacley love songs....politics is not their thing, and the lyrics are embarrassingly ham-fisted.

I appreciate the sentiment behind these songs, but compared to what DBT and other left-leaning southern bands are doing, this is total amateur hour

I second that. Only got through it once so far. It is very low key, but also intense - in the way few other than NC do - I like it.

Back to the older sound. Sharde Thomas' harmonies and backing vocals are great, though it took a minute to get used to having a female voice in the band. I'm diggin' it.
