Unfortunately the you-get-what-you-pay-for axiom is never more true than with new vinyl. The good stuff uses original tapes, analog mastering, quality materials and pressing, etc., etc., and that is certainly reflected in the price. There are also many lower tier companies that essentially record a CD with indifferent mastering and shoddy pressing to take advantage of all the recent turntable sales. Most actual new releases I've bought have been very good over the last few years, but in the early 00's it seemed more of a crapshoot. Most of the reissues I buy are a bit higher up the food chain and I have very few problems. If there are flaws I send 'em back.cortez the killer wrote:I'm sure the reasons are numerous, and there are far more knowledgeable folks on the subject than me, but I've been told part of the issue is how the album is recorded. Older records used analog tape, whereas a good number of modern recordings are digital. I gotta imagine this impacts the transfer to vinyl.dime in the gutter wrote:i'm sure there is a thread for this somewhere else, but since we are here....does anybody notice new pressings of lps seem to have more flaws than vintage vinyl? those old records are rock solid.
I cannot see, hear, or think about this record without my olfactory memories being flooded with raspberry scent from that scratch 'n' sniff sticker. I remember when it filled every record department of every store in the spring of '72.cortez the killer wrote:
