At least according to the semi-official received Beatles wisdom, John was quite the misogynist until he met yoko and for sometime thereafter (e.g. walking around LA w/ a tampon on his head). The odds that he made a feminist record in 65/66, at least purposely, are pretty slim. Which I guess is to say that if there are both feminist and non-feminist ways to interpret lyrics from that period the non-feminist interpretation is the safer bet.

I really liked the last Waxahachee record too

Apparently everyone is listening to Taylor Swift - snagged all spots on the Billboard Top Ten? Impressive.

Undoubtedly impressive, but to me less meaningful than in the old days: A substantial portion of the chart algorithm depends on streaming plays. Streaming plays are effectively free to listeners. What listeners will listen to for free is not necessarily indicative of what they'd pay for. Now as long as they're mostly not going to pay anyway, then sure, streaming is a meaningful, even crucial, stat but I suggest that it measures breadth, not depth, of interest and approval. Particularly for someone like Swift who has a huge fan base, it seems totally normal that "everyone" will want to check out the new album. The immediate numbers are so large it's hard to figure out for a while how much people are actually liking it, especially compared to alternatives, both hers and others.

So, yeah, definitely a big deal and kudos to her, but perhaps less meaningful than it may at first appear.

i will always be partial to a few off the 1st three EPs, which was my introduction to the "Son Of Mustang Ford" or "Kill The Superheroes" but "Birds" is a great one for sure, killer melody hook in the chorus.
