What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

First spin. Can't say I agree with TC's last statement. Tad Kubler's riffage will never get old for me.

I used to put that album on, stand the album cover up. turn off the lights and point my strobe light at the cover.
It was just like I was there. The girls liked it too.
I still have the strobe light, in fact the last time I turned it on, bogart got very ill.
and the rest as they say is uh er uh, well somebodies history somewhere?

What a great release day. I no longer care if THS never releases another record, Finn doesn't need that vehicle anymore. Great stuff.
Yeah! Really liking this.

Yeah this record sounds great. (and I'm not a big hold steady fan)

The song about the guy and girl selling the drugs in Chicago might be the best song I've heard this year. Reminds me of Patterson's Untold Pretties. Wow.

I'm going through a bunch of new releases from 2017 and finding a lot of them uninspiring. I know there is plenty to come, but I can barely put together five albums so far that are real "keepers" this year
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I think this year has piled up so many good albums already that I can't give them the time they deserve.

Loving the new Craig Finn. There are few songwriters who get as close to my life experience and observations as he does.

McMurtry and Evan Felker are up there too.

I just went through the new Thundercat, Vagabon, Porkchop (slide dude) and Ryan Adams and none grabbed me in the least. Ty Segall, Dead Man Winter, Son Volt and Conor Oberst are the only ones that are getting regular rotation right now.

That said, there are many records that are announced that I'm really looking forward to, so all is not lost

I've really dug RA, SV, Porkchop, Dead Man Winter, Craig Finn, Bash & Pop, Chuck Prophet, and Old 97's.

That's 8 albums in 3 months. Torrid pace for me.

Haven't heard the latter 4. Never was much of a HS fan but am willing to give Finn a go.

you heading out this year, Bill?
Really looking forward to catching Colour Haze sometime but that Boris set destroyed me. I'm just fine with how it worked out.

"Romeo Had Juliette" sounds like a mash up between "Marry Me" and "Shattered". Obviously a song released 10+ later by a band Lou Reed was probably barely aware of didn't influence this, but it's just what I hear in my head.
my #1 album of the 80s, and an amazing tour as well

I find the Ryan Adams to be pretty mediocre, sounds like an album he's made over and over but not as good as before, love the Bash and Pop and Chuck Prophet, strongly like Son Volt

Finn's solo stuff sounds nothing like THS, so it might be more your wheelhouse.

Agree with Iowan.
I also can't stop listening to Porter Wagoner and Faron Young and Dwight Yoakam. I could give the new releases more listens if I could stop listening to "Misery Loves Company".

This is absolutely fantastic. Plus I was at this show. Typical setlist from the era with a few surprises and the band was on fire that night.

that tour was stellar from start to finish! We did Hampton (the one released in the Pure Jerry series) and Charlotte the next night. Jerry in full Zeus mode the whole tour!!!
