What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Vinyl arrived today. 8-)
I haven't decided how I feel about this one. Have to listen more. Don't crucify me but I'm the same way with the latest DBT album. There are a few songs I really like for sure but on the whole I need to listen more. I'm excited for the blu-ray of Neil & POTR. You can only order it from his website. It's taken from the European tour right after Elliot Roberts died. Some intense stuff. As far as DBT goes, I was really enjoying the streak of more political records. We need that right now. Maybe the next one will get back to that.

Three listens in I'm reminded of someone recently saying they're on the fence about it because they find it so depressing. Yes, there's some sad songs on it but it's not like that's something new when it comes to the Truckers. It's always been part of the landscape when it comes to their music which is likely why I've never paid it much mind.

These two shows were one day apart in 1981. I've got them mashed up into a single playlist.

Scanning Cortez's Sunset Strip playlist, I recognized some band names and decided to check it out.

80s metal was what I listened to driving around when I was still young enough to not know how the puzzle fit together----early Crue, early Def Leppard, Raven, early Dokken, Scorpions, Priest, Krokus, etc. I had a glorious mullet and my bedroom wall was wallpapered in stuff I'd cut out of Hit Parader.

Cortez's Sunset Strip metal list is way deeper than stuff I knew at the time, but early in, I'm digging it.

Dokken's "Breaking the Chains" was a nice surprise. Much respect for adding W.A.S.P. I like the Twisted Sister songs--- "Burn in Hell" (their best song) would work too. Ratt's "Sweet Cheater" would be a good fit.

I would nominate my two favorite early Scorpions songs: "Animal Magnetism" and "The Zoo"
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

As much as I'd love to take credit for this beauty of a playlist, it was curated by the fine folks at Numero Group. Props to the excellent "Driver" reference, schlanky.

This is a pleasant surprise. Boston-based indie/slowcore, three-piece. Just bought the last vinyl record off their Bandcamp page. Only 300 copies pressed. Maybe this will be my Propeller someday, tinnitus!

Thanks for the correction, and thanks for sharing the list. It took me back.

Picked up "Controversy" on vinyl recently to surprise Mrs. schlanky with for our very occasional Saturday card game with cocktails and vinyl, and broke it out today. I hadn't heard this album in years, and loved it even more than I remembered.

That's a great one!

I've been on a bit of an old school Funk/Boogie/Soul kick lately. Great summer music.

Koz has certainly proved himself to be a shitbag, but, man, is this album beautiful.
