I saw TG Sheppard last year and it was one of my favorite shows in quite a while. There's plenty of cheese, but the songs are really good.
Ride'em Cowboy by Paul Davis is a big favorite of mine. The Bellamy Brothers covered it a few years ago and it's really good too.

I suspect I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to separate the phenomenon and the spectacle from the musician. Being the old white guy curmudgeon that I am, I could do w/out all the surround, from the gossip to the glitter to the real and fake feuds, to her true mastery of the business and social aspects of her field, etc etc. What would be left would be a good singer-songwriter who has at least her share of true highlights and who does a great job of capturing the zeitgeist of a substantial portion of the population. But damn, sometimes it's hard to just listen to the music.
