Take the long way home, So I can drive around, Put Neil Young on, And turn up the sound...

Yeah. I like him alright but to me if you've heard one of his records you've heard them all.Zip City wrote:The new Justin Townes Earle is streaming on NPR. It's nice, but not exactly blowing my skirt up

There was such a fall off in quality between NGCTWYFAMN (damn what an acronym) and Single Mothers that was so great I never even listened to Absent Fathers.Cole Younger wrote:Yeah. I'm excited for his daddy's new country record, although his last one with Shawn Colvin was pretty dull.

As much as I hate to say it, I can't say I've had anything even in the same area code as excitement for a new Steve Earle album since The Mountain and Transcendental Blues. Still love the dude but his output over the last 15 or so years, for me, went from "FUCK YEAH!" to "meh " in the blink of an eyeSmitty wrote:There was such a fall off in quality between NGCTWYFAMN (damn what an acronym) and Single Mothers that was so great I never even listened to Absent Fathers.Cole Younger wrote:Yeah. So for some inexplicable reason, Richard Lloyd is playing some hole in the wall here in Charlotte on 5/30. I'll need an afternoon nap for the midnight showtimeClams wrote:Television - Marquee Moon
Somehow I'm just discovering this record.

Yeah, I wouldn't say I've been excited for one since The Revolution Starts Now, which I thought sucked at first but I've since grown to appreciate. I've checked them all out since then but they haven't been highly anticipated by Kong shot.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote: As much as I hate to say it, I can't say I've had anything even in the same area code as excitement for a new Steve Earle album since The Mountain and Transcendental Blues. I'd say Jerusalem was his last really good one, but they all have have their moments. I think The Low Highway is probably his best since then. The promise of this one at least paying lip service to his outlaw-country pioneer status does have my curiosity cautiously piqued. We'll see.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
I think Saving Country Music summed this up pretty well when they said it's basically 2 albums in one. A 4 song Laurel Canyon sounding pop rock EP starts it, and it's finished with 7 California country tunes. I can see this making my Top 10 for 2017. I like the writing and the melodies are catchy as all get out. "All My Life" has a strong Gram/Emmylou vibe to it, "Trouble" is the definition of ear candy, and "Two Broken Hearts" and "Diamond Ring" are excellent takes on classic country subject matter.
