had to miss their boston show since my work trip got extended. had you seen them before? how do the guitarists sound? does still seem a bit weird for the Church to be w/o Koppes and Willson-Piper

Was my first time seeing them. Guitarists sound good to me. The theme/story of the new album, The Hypnogogue, was a bit awkward, but I thought they sounded great overall. My only gripe was no "Myrrh."

at least you got "Columbus" which is almost as good.

i've seen them play 3 or 4 different records in full but would love a Heyday tour. it's certainly their finest work w/ no duds at all.

Those first 5-6 albums are all very good to excellent.

Definitely! Dexateens even get a shout out in one of their songs (Alabama Bound?). Their latest album Water Valley High was released on Matt Pattons’s Dialback Sounds label. I think they may have toured with them back in the days. Can also highly recommend that Krista Shows album I posted further up in the thread, also on Dialback Sounds.

Everything I've heard is positive but I havent seen them live and only listened to a few songs off the record. Not enough to form an opinion one way or the other.

They did not do a ton for me live but I was going in mostly cold having only listened to the EP with the WWW cover. I plan on listening to the album to see what I think of that.

Those three albums are brilliant. Should be mentioned in the same breath as The Cure and Echo & The Bunnymen. Just as good.

I've thought about this alot. Smart answer is Exile (double album). Sneaky picks would be Some Girls or Sticky. But for me, it's Let It Bleed.

LOL. This debate has been going on at least since Exile was released and has been ongoing on 9B/3DD for at least as long as I've been a member. If I understand your use of the term I agree that Some Girls would be a sneaky pick, but not Sticky Fingers, a stone cold recognized classic from the day it was released. If you want to be really sneaky you could go w/ the singles box set on the double album theory times 4 plus some classic never on US albums singles. I've named Bleed, Sticky and Exile at different times and probably Beggar's Banquet more than once. Have definitely named Some Girls as best since Exile but can't recall if I've ever named it as THE ONE. I've probably gone w/ Let It Bleed the most/the longest but in recent years I've leaned towards Sticky Fingers. It's a classic bar or dorm room argument because there is no right answer but there is plenty to support the argument for any of them and people are passionate about their choices.

Private to tequila cowboy: Whatever the answer is, it is NOT Black and Blue.
