One listen in and solid. I like Normal for Bridgwater a lot. Nos Da Comrade from a couple years ago is a good Bruntnell album, too.

I second that. Only got through it once so far. It is very low key, but also intense - in the way few other than NC do - I like it.

Well, I dunno. Perhaps not the best term to describe what this is. I have been a fan of Nick Cave since the late 80’s. Kind of grown up with him. Not an album you put on at a party but the beauty of these songs... wow!

I thought I saw something about a possible 2020 record. But I've also seen quotes from him saying he's not that interested in making new records, because it hasn't affected his touring draw, and his touring draw is where he makes his money.

After a couple listens I'm not sure there are songs here on the level of Enough Rope, Missing You, Rural Route, etc etc.....but it is still really, really good. Totally worth the wait.

Chris reminds me of Don Williams a little bit. You associate both of them with a certain type of music, but I don't associate either with a music scene. Don did work with Emmylou Harris, but I don't think of Don at all when I think of the Texas country scene in the 1970's or the Nashville scene of the same era, or any other scene. He carved out his own spot.
Chris is kinda the same. He writes with Dan Baird and Chuck Prophet and whoever else, but it always seems like they join him and do his thing.The fact that he hasn't left rural western Kentucky probably plays a part in it too.

Enough Rope is one of the most gut wrenching songs I've ever heard. I don't expect him to match it, emotionally.

This is really high level songwriting, and as the kids say - I'm here for it.

You nail it on Knight maintaining independence from a particular scene.

The new Angel Olsen record is getting great reviews. Might have to check it out.

it's pretty good. in certain ways it reminded me of the new Nick Cave record, though i have only listened to either once.

He's been promoting his Continental Club gigs saying he's playing new material and he signed a new deal this past May with New West The record was supposed to be out this fall but I think it's been pushed back to early 2020.
