Nice to see the cover adheres to 3DD's boob policy.

True. They are essentially a very LOUD pop group. Got no clue what the songs are about, though. Completely unintelligible.tinnitus photography wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 10:18 amKvelertak on random... these guys can write a really catchy song. fun live band too.

This album is just a staggering work of art. "Decent Man" has become my favorite as of late. The story, the imagery, the way the final chorus swells. I don't understand half of it, but "Vaquero" is incredibly powerful. "Blackberry Winter" is a perfect album closer. The opening salvo has been discussed around here a bunch, but more excellent songs. This is one of the best albums from a guy who has been at the top of the songwriting game for a long time.
McMurtry separated himself from everyone else on this album. Isbell's not even in the same ball park at this point, and hasn't been for close to a decade. It's not like McMurtry is some unknown, but he should absolutely be the stock answer for greatest active songwriter instead of Isbell (who is seemingly that right now).
Fuckin' A.
This is such a fun album, and there's some fantastic songwriting here. Props to BK for bringing him into the 3DD fold.
It's growin' on me. I don't live any of the songs on their own yet, but when you view it as a whole piece like "Red Headed Stranger", it hits a lot better. The band here is great, and the story is well crafted as whole story cycle concept albums go.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Yeah, the new McMurtry is excellent. Strong album of the year candidate. I'd also add "If It Don't Bleed" and "Jackie" to the list of top-shelf songs, which I assume you include in your opening salvo comment.Iowan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 2:25 pm

Yes. I had been holding back on "Operation Never Mind" but it clicked with me late yesterday. At this point the only one that I'd consider skipping is "What's The Matter".cortez the killer wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 10:10 amYeah, the new McMurtry is excellent. During my Pearl Jam fanaticism stage, I always had a soft spot for this album. Some really strong tracks here. "Save You", "Can't Keep", "Love Boat Captain", "Thumbing My Way", "I Am Mine", and "You Are" all hold up well.

Yup. Obvious Who influence is obvious.
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
McMurtry record is really solid, just what you want from him. Not seeing it as a masterpiece yet, but we'll see how repeated listens sink in.
