well, bubba...that is truly a most excellent tip.
I picked up this anthology a while back b/c i needed some supremes in my life. it has worked. simply fantastic collection.
but...
until you mentioned the motown anthology series, i did not know they were a thing. so i will be on the look out now.
thank you.
You're welcome. I thought I was ratifying/confirming your most excellent taste but if you're on the lookout for Motown in all its glory, look for this one, which i know is availabe used in various places on the 'net:
The Greatest 64 Motown Original Hits, which is, of all things, a K-Tel album, if that means anything to you.
If comps count this is a serious contender for greatest album ever. When I was hitting my stride as a music fan (say late teens/early 20's) the 2 "holy grails" of record searches were this one and Lenny Kaye's
Nuggets. I still remember the day I found the Motown collection. A friend tipped me off that a used record store had 2
new(!) copies, of which he had just bought one, and i had to ask for it because the proprietor was keeping them (now it) under the counter (not displayed). I cut class, ran over there and got what for all i knew at the time was the last copy extant. I paid the then exorbitant sum of 25 bucks and couldn't believe i got it so "cheap." Highly, highly recommended, although you can forget listening to anything else for at least a week or 2.
PS The
Anthology albums are excellent, too, but for "one stop shopping" nothing beats 64 Hits.
