Weathervanes

I truly appreciate that this album is distinctly Isbell but also distinctly NOT Truckers-era Isbell, if that makes sense. It’s Jason’s signature sound, but none of these songs would fit on an old DBT record. It’s a pleasure to see an artist split off on his own and forge a unique path.
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

When We Were Close would have been an amazing DBT song.

It was a great tour. I went to the Seattle & Portland shows. I was going to go to a Spokane show but it got cancelled. Most of the tour got Social Distortion in the 3 slot but we got Drivin & Cryin. I ended up getting quite drunk with the D & C guitar player in the hotel bar after the show in Portland. It was pretty funny watching the hippies run out of the arena with their hands on their ears when Sonic Youth broke out the screwdrivers during Xpresswat to Your Skull in Portland.

Such a great era. Just at the beginning of his 90s reemergence. Definitive versions of Into the Black, Crime in the City, Welfare Mothers and Powderfinger. Kickass versions of Cortez and Hurricane, too. So pumped this was reissued on vinyl.

This basically served as my introduction to Neil back when it was released. Made a huge impression.

This album is so good.

If you didn’t catch it on the first spin, I’m absolutely convinced that 10-38 is a rewrite of State Trooper from the cop’s perspective. It’s stunning.

That Tim remix is exceptional. I’m probably going to replace all songs from that album with those versions on my various playlists
