My favorite Neil record. I remember when it was a holy grail when it was out of print. Need to get me some honey sliders!

Yeah, I don't know why this one in particular elicited that reaction, but there it is.dime in the gutter wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 4:08 pmha. this whole place is a way back machine.beantownbubba wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:52 pmWhoa, hitting the way back machine! A favorite of 4sooner's.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
The Paranoid Style - For Executive Meeting First listen and I'm loving this [now 2 listens]. No surprise, but still nice when hopes/expectations are met.
Did we know that Patterson sings on one song? I don't remember knowing that. The song, "I'd Bet My Land and Tiles," is perfect for PH.
There are so many historical/cultural/pop cultural/literary references in these songs the album could be its own Jeopardy game. It's frustrating but challenging and way interesting knowing that I don't get far too many of them. Elizabeth Nelson drops brilliant and "I think they'd be brilliant if I understood them" lines and couplets like she's got an infinite store of them, and who knows? Maybe she does. Here are a couple of very 21st century thoughts/observations:
"I wanna be your lover but I'm already your boss." ("Love & Demotion")
"Why did I give half my life to people I hate now?" ("Until Birnam Woods Comes to Dunsinane")
Although I'm not on twitter, I've seen some of her posts and they are consistent with the sharpness, wit and insight of her lyrics.
The ultimate test: I was motivated to order a bunch of merch I may or may not ever use. Consider me a fanboy.
Bonus: Here's a nice though brief piece on Elizabeth Nelson and her husband and bandmate, Timothy Bracy: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022 ... ouacs-dive

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Thanks for posting as I hadn't read that. I had the good fortune to become friends with Elizabeth and Timothy when they were working at Schoolkids Records in Durham several years ago. This was back when I was promoting shows in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) region so Schoolkids was a regular stop on my route when hanging posters for shows. Patterson came up almost immediately in conversation and they told me how they first became friends with him. However, I don't remember the details of that. At the time, I don't think I knew of the Paranoid Style or that either of them were writers. Pretty much the extent of that was Timothy mentioning he'd been a member of Mendoza Line. I can say without question that Elizabeth is in the upper tier of my favorite music writers. Also, as the article points out, her tweets are a fine example of her gifts as a writer.beantownbubba wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 12:47 pmThe Paranoid Style - For Executive Meeting First listen and I'm loving this [now 2 listens].
