classic NZ guitar shredder, member of The Clean, one of New Zealand's most important bands... they helped kick start Flying Nun as a label, called a hiatus in the mid 80s and then reformed around 1990 and have been sporadically active since then. his brother Hamish lives in NYC and Robert Scott the bass player is very active with The Bats, so David's done a lot of solo work too.

Lacy’s tweet about this album accurately chronicling life on the plains better than anyone since Turnpike is spot on. Loving this, and it hits very close to home.

Years ago, a band from NC called Sidewinder sued the Sidewinders over their name which led to at least a couple years of legal entanglements and them changing their name to the Sand Rubies. Some have theorized that the lawsuit and name change effectively ended their career. Per a recent FB post, Patterson said the NC Sidewinder is mentioned in a new DBT's song (I have no idea which one). This reminded me that at one time, they were fairly well known outside of NC. Though known as a cover band, they did release one album of mostly original material called Fade to Black. It may also be worth noting that at one time both Robert Kearns (Cry of Love, the Bottle Rockets, Skynyrd, Sheryl Crow) and Audley Freed were once members. A later line up of the band made it to the finals on Star Search but were defeated by Sawyer Brown.
