"Welcome to Countryland" Flatland Cavalry

Top notch straight-ahead country rock with damn sharp songwriting. Cleto Cordero (lead singer/songwriter) has some Prine-esque qualities to his writing style and the music is real reminiscent of Turnpike Troubadours particularly in the guitar and fiddle leads. These guys are a lot more well adjusted (a la Prine) and it's hard not to just have a smile when you're listening to this. Clams, BK, Jonicont, Cole Younger would all dig. Will be in my Top 10 at the end of the year, if not Top 5. Only behind The Hold Steady so far for 2021.

That said...


There is no way this won't be my favorite album of the year. McMurtry has dropped 2 straight fucking heaters to remind everyone that he's (at this point) probably only rivaled by Cooley as the sharpest songwriter going. Todd Snider really slipped on this last album, and Evan Felker seems unlikely to create again. I can't fucking wait for this album.
