What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Yeah, you gotta work at it a bit to extract the essence, but I find it makes the listening experience more interesting and rewarding. Seeing how you are a fan of Sprout's, I'm not surprised to hear you prefer B1000 to AL as he has a bigger role on the former.

Alien Lanes was always the album from that era I had tried with in the past, and maybe it was the Sprout influence on B1000 I needed to warm up to that run.

Regardless, it's fun to be excited about a new rabbit hole. Your album-by-album breakdown over in that thread helped lay out a lot of crucial context, so thanks for that.

I had forgotten how hard this rocks. If you played me the cut of "Hey Hey What Can I Do?", I would have just thought that was some live Zeppelin boot. Chris Robinson sounds that close to Plant, and Steve Gorman sounds that close to Bonham.

I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would. Sounds like he's ditched the faux/earnest country thing he's been doing for so long now, and he's just gone full pop. I listened on my headphones and I thought it sounded pretty cool and modern.

I agree with that assessment, but IMO, to make pop work, you have to have big hooks. There are fewer hooks (to my ears) on this album than maybe anything he's ever done.

"Only Children" and "Dreamsicle" are the only ones that have much of a memorable hook to me.

i wore that CD out when I was in high school.
And Hey Hey is by far my favorite Zeppelin tune.

Reunions

I'm liking it so far. Jason is channeling his inner Dave Gilmour on some of these solos
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I got 3 songs in and just switched to "Teens of Denial".

I struggle with synth heavy stuff. I eventually got into it with Sturgill's last album, but it wasn't an immediate thing at all.

i never had a strong take either way about coldplay but i remember liking the title track and violet hill as singles, and im all over the eno catalog lately so it seemed a good time to check out the rest of the album. its a good album! theres a very goofy everyman charm to the band but it plays surprisingly well when they open their arrangements up like this

It’s a grower. There Must Be More Than Blood is such a badass song. Although heavy on the synth it still finds its way into the wheelhouse 8-)

Dozed off for cuts 6&7. Woke up for the last three. His current audience will be very happy

JI&400Unit - Reunions

I have to say much better than I expected. The beginning of Running With Our Eyes Closed has I’m No Angel by Greg Allman oozing out of it.

I have been kinda luke warm to Isbell's last couple of albums. But this one sounds pretty good. Really liking the production.

Listened from start to finish. I've no interest in listening again.

So many folks who I respect are raving about this record. I don't get it.
In Johnny Cash's autobiography he said he thought the future of country music was in good hands. One of the guys he named as a torchbearer was Colin Raye.....the "That's My Story" guy. Johnny was wrong about that one.

With all due respect, I hate it when people dismiss something with "it sucks". No it doesn't, you just don't like it. There's a difference. "It sucks" implies that not only is it bad, but people are stupid to like it

Also applicable in the politics thread.
Don't hurt people, and don't take their stuff.
