Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
There was a new Isbell song Friday, and not a single mention yet in this thread.
I would say that speaks volumes. For the record, it's better than the other two, but that doesn't mean much.

I actually really like this new one. Hoping the rest of the record veers more towards it and Overseas territory, and not the previous two singles.Iowan wrote:There was a new Isbell song Friday, and not a single mention yet in this thread.

Another case of my taste and the trending taste of 3DD not lining up. I got bored about 1/2 way through.Clams wrote:thisscotto wrote:

You must be one of the 7 or 8 people left posting in here that still rides the Izzy Express.Iowan wrote:There was a new Isbell song Friday, and not a single mention yet in this thread.

I'm pretty much out. Haven't seen him live in 6 years, and am in no hurry to return. I think he's mostly crawled up his own ass musically, and the first two songs off this record made me think he's almost trolling people at this point. Just putting out crap and watching the glowing praise roll in because he's been anointed some kind of savior.cortez the killer wrote:You must be one of the 7 or 8 people left posting in here that still rides the Izzy Express.Iowan wrote:There was a new Isbell song Friday, and not a single mention yet in this thread.

But I'm still going to give everything he puts out a cursory listen. He's like that relative that you used to be really close to who went off the rails, and you keep checking in, hoping they're back to being themselves, only to be disappointed every time. I've liked a few songs on the past few albums, but I don't connect to the "he's the greatest living songwriter" crowd at all.

This is how I feel about him too. In some ways I want him to fall off the wagon... go on a whisky and cocaine bender and write some songs.Iowan wrote:But I'm still going to give everything he puts out a cursory listen. I blame Amanda, not Clams for his castration.

You should go post this on one of his Facebook groups, and report back.bovine knievel wrote:This is how I feel about him too. The irony is that Amanda's music has been far more interesting than Jason's over the past few yearsbovine knievel wrote:

That may be a bridge too far for me, but it is fantastic. The reggie Young guitar lick to kick the album off is some nasty shit.Iowan wrote:Prine's best album.cortez the killer wrote:
