What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Again. Makes me forget that there's another mediocre new Isbell song out today (at least he shreds on it a little).

You're being very kind by calling it mediocre. I actually cringed while listening. He's coming to Philly on June 3 and I'm so happy it's the same night as my daughter's HS graduation so my wife can't make me go to the show.

On a side note, I do look forward to seeing what's new on my Release Radar every Friday on Spotify.

I liked the slide guitar in the outro. The production wasn't muddled either. That's more than I can say nice about "Be Afraid".

I cringed when I saw the song title. Jason's writing the kind of stuff I feared Patterson would for The Unraveling.

I really like this. I thought the last American Aquarium album was the most realized "in his own voice" work that BJ Barham has done. I think he's still getting better.

I tried listening to both new Isbell songs. Didn’t care to finish either one.

Futurebirds Teamwork and The Unraveling still receiving daily spins. Sometimes without skipping a song on either record. Amazing.

Teamwork and The Unraveling compliment each other nicely. They both rock so good but they couldn’t be farther apart lyrically.

Had many a sweaty, beer-soaked night with that Springfield crew back in the '80s. Did you ever see the Morells? That's who they were after the original Skeletons (which came after they were The Original Symptoms) and before they became the Skeletons again.

I did not. I only discovered them a year or two before Lou Whitney passed away.
Have you seen anything about the Springfield documentary that is slowly being released ? Lou is kinda the leading man in the film I believe.
Here's a link to a 7 minute trailer.

No, wasn't aware of it--thanks for the tip. Lou was an absolute prince of a guy, a true rock and roll champion. He's also the fry cook/bass player in this old Jack Daniel's ad, which is the most Lou Whitney thing ever:

Great party in Northampton, MA last night. Hadn't seen The Jayhawks since 2004 in NYC. The Mastersons opened and were very good. Jayhawks are currently a tight, five-piece operation. Dude who looks like he was pulled off the Smile album cover giving Ben Keith, Johnny Neff and Jay Gonzalez a run for their $$$ as a multi-instrumental jedi knight. Switched back and forth from acoustic, electric, mandolin and fiddle. Chick on the keys brought it. Gary Louris can still shred. Opened "Waiting For the Sun" with a very Cortez the Killer/Like a Hurricane hybridish solo. Some great blasts from his guitar throughout the evening. Brought out an accordionist for several songs. Worked across the catalog, borrowing heaviest from Hollywood Town Hall, Tomorrow the Green Grass and Rainy Day Music. Fantastic cover of "Ode To Billie Joe" with The Mastersons, the accordionist and an extra bassist (Bonnie Whitmore) joining in. Got some dueling fiddles and back-and-forth shredding from Gary and Chris Masterson. The highlight of a great evening of live music!

So my baby girl got married last November. Had the wedding party in a small club we hang out at. Hired BJ to come and serenade us. Here's 2 songs. NB: my daughter is from Long Island and her husband is from bumfuck North Carolina

Always go to the show
