Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Right, I got ya, I was under the impression that the tracks off Hitchhiker were the same recordings that comprised Chrome Dreams, as were the ones released on later albums, so Hitchhiker effectively killed any chance of Chrome Dreams getting a proper release as now all the songs (sans Stringman) were out there. I thought I had read that somewhere but I can't find a source, so I guess maybe I came to that conclusion after reading that the takes featured on Hitchhiker were the same takes recycled for later albums minus overdubs (for the most part). I guess "Too Far Gone" is the exception to that, but I assumed the bootleg "Too Far Gone" was the Chrome Dreams version as it contained a mandolin part...cortez the killer wrote:Three of the twelve songs that were to be on Chrome Dreams, appear on Hitchhiker - Pocahontas, Powderfinger and Captain Kennedy. With the exception of "Stringman", the songs slated for Chrome Dreams eventually wound up on future studio albums - American Stars 'N Bars (Will to Love, Star of Bethlehem, Like a Hurricane, Hold Back the Tears, Homegrown), Comes a Time (Look Out for My Love), Rust Never Sleeps (Pocahontas, Powderfinger, Sedan Delivery), Hawks and Doves (Captain Kennedy) and Freedom (Too Far Gone). "Stringman" showed up on the 1993 Unplugged album. However, not all the songs are the original versions of those on Chrome Dreams. Would love to hear the original Chrome Dreams the way Neil initially intended in 1977.Smitty wrote:I was under the impression that the Hitchhiker album had a lot of tracks that comprised the original Chrome Dreams?
Anyways, I'm with you on it getting a proper release, redundant or not. Honestly though I wish he'd hurry up and release Homegrown or Islands in the Sun. I can't find my copy of Shakey to check, but wasn't there a possible third unreleased album from the 70's briefly referenced in the book called Hawaii(or something), or am I just imagining that too?

The Dirty South on headphones today while I worked out. Still my favorite DBT record and sometimes when I haven't listened in a while I forget just how good it is.

the Purple Mountains record, as of song 3, is excellent.
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
PLEASE PLEASE give Shawn James's new record "The Dark & The Light" a listen. You wont be sorry. This dude is on another level. Catch the show, too... he's touring U. S. right now. A genuinely nice guy too.
I would like to apologize to anybody that I have not offended. Please be patient, I will get to you.
