a good friend tells a great story about seeing them back in WV in the 70s and Mr. Dandy comes out with something around his neck he called the "Golden Clitoris Award," which was bestowed upon him because he, quote, "gets so much pussy!"Shakespeare wrote:yeah i watched a few BOA videos from california jam 74 last night. quite a performer

I can remember ABC running highlights of that CA Jam after midnight on a Friday back when the concert occurred (same thing with 78, pretty sure the second one had the Nuge)

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Over the weekend, I heard the new Jimi Hendrix record, Both Sides of the Sky, which is supposed to be the end of the significant studio recordings. It's really fucking good! I don't know if it's for casual fans, but it's definitely not just for completists. It's a good record as well as being all good tracks--not a weak spot on there. The two numbers with Stephen Stills are very different from the other songs and that's okay. The version of "Cherokee Mist" is very different from the other recorded version and is unlike any other Hendrix track I can think of. It sounds more like the Velvet Underground (or maybe the Mothers of Invention, thinking back now) than anything else, I think, and I later discovered there's a tenuous Tom Wilson connection to it. I would love to know whether there was more connection here than a loaned sitar. Highly recommended--I'm getting a vinyl copy.

I loved hearing KH at HC. Think it has evolved into a great live track after hearing it at the Euro tour last year. Not by any drastic changes to the arrangement. More subtle about " the attitude of the playing", I guess.Iowan wrote:Joining you. Been awhile.scotto wrote:

Without really noticing I've probably played American Band more than any other DBT record at this point--and that's saying something. A great fucking record and it's been in my regular rotation since it came out.RolanK wrote:I loved hearing KH at HC. yeah if that's your first entry, it'll be a bit bewildering.Shakespeare wrote:
probably a strange first sun ra album. still wrapping my head around it
i would start w/ the late 50s stuff on Delmark etc... then go into the weirder territory.
Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
These are pretty solid. If you like the last few Craig Finn solo albums, you'll dig this. Similar song structure to those, but with Hold Steady instrumentals. A little less musically linear than usual THS.

those hold steady songs are really good. we all want the same things was excellent (my favorite of 2017) but those scratch an itch his solo work couldnt possibly scratch
trying not to burn out on them in case they end up as part of an album (theyre basically halfway there, might as well right?) but snake in the shower is too good

If you're a deep fan, a friend of mine is involved with a new release of some unheard Ruby Starr material, coming out later this year.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:a good friend tells a great story about seeing them back in WV in the 70s and Mr. Dandy comes out with something around his neck he called the "Golden Clitoris Award," which was bestowed upon him because he, quote, "gets so much pussy!"Shakespeare wrote:yeah i watched a few BOA videos from california jam 74 last night. quite a performer
