What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Insane show! ('97 Phish was chock full of 'em). Reba, Ghost, Tweezer. All insane. Let's not forget the Johnny B. Goode that suddenly blasted into space. Don't listen to Phish a whole lot anymore, but this is one show I still bust out every so often.

Yeah, this was a good one. I didn't personally attend the Denver show, however I was in attendance at Assembly Hall two nights later which is included as part of the Filler on disc 3. Wolfman's doesn't typically get me excited live, but the 28:21 one from the Assembly Hall show is outstanding.

Detroit's Craig Brown Band effuse a pleasantly scruffy dive bar vibe on their debut LP, The Lucky Ones Forget. A mix of lo-fi country and Midwestern rock slackery, the sextet is formed around the singing, songwriting, and guitar slinging talents of Craig Brown, a fixture of the Motor City's punk scene since the mid-2000s. Brown's rickety but rocking approach and blue collar feel make him a good fit for both this style of music and for Third Man, the Jack White-owned label that signed them in 2016. Standouts like the poppy "I Wondered What" and the brief-but-mighty road rocker "Get This Money" show a band with plenty of spirit and grit, though they can also change gears with the occasional witty ballad, like on the deadbeat honky tonk of album-closer "Mine's Better." Throughout the album, Brown's rasping tenor is complemented nicely by the sweet-toned Drinkard Sisters, the Detroit sibling duo who make up one-third of his band. While not showy, The Lucky Ones Forget is an easy listen that hangs together well and makes for a solid debut.

Damn, does Timothy Monger get paid by the cliche'? He's just southern-fried, gutbucket, and guitarslinger away from bingo

I do. I found the CD a few years ago at Spin Street records in Memphis.
Peter also wrote an awesome piece about Charlie and Margaret Ann Rich in his book Feel Like Going Home. Peter loved those two and he's never been shy about admitting it.

Here's Peter talking about writing feel Like Going Home and the song Charlie wrote by the same title. A little cameo by Sun guitarist, Roland Janes.

Thanks, I loved that. It led me to this, the demo for Feel Like Going Home, which I'd never heard before:

That rips my heart out. Charlie Rich was something else.
Some musician I follow on social media (Kevin Russell or kevin Gordon I think) posted that demo about a year ago. That was the first time I'd heard it. It's stunning.

Really? You know who he is? He is my roomate from college's neighbor from a town in the Northwest Suburbs named Libertyville. (Tom Morello is also from that town.) I dig We Belong To the Staggering Evening, Salesmen and Racists, and Junkie Faithful.
Cool dude as well.

Can't say I enjoyed it very much but it's an interesting idea for a free night out.

It just wasn't possible to see everyone at Psycho, but missing these guys really bummed me out.
they sounded great, and had some pretty sweet doom flares.
