What's Everyone Listening to?

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

I went for the 2 cd version. The album is the remaster the Edge did 10 years ago & it sounds amazing. I passed on the 20th anniversary package, so new to me. The concert disc is awesome. Maybe the best "40" ever. I wish they would've released the whole show. It's 76 minutes, so you do get plenty of it.

A totally amazing recording of Midnight Oil in Seattle on 5/31. Both performance & recording are stellar.

Living near NYC, the choice of Webster Hall for an Oils show made no sense. Sold out in minutes. Seeing them play Sometimes is worth the price of admission though.

I believe they are playing later in the summer at Terminal 5 (?).

Yes. We're away that week unfortunately. Luckily I've seen them twice but this is a band I've been hoping to see again for a long time.

Decided to check out the Seratones who will be opening shows for the Truckers in July. Seems that they are Louisiana bred and I hear rawness, garage and guitars. Singer's got good pipes. I like.
Saw them play before before the Dexateens a couple weeks ago; they were killer, especially AJ (the singer). That record was produced by Jimbo Mathis and was recorded at Matt Patton's studio.
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.

There is a tape up on sugarmegs.org. Not sure if its the same 1 I have. If there is a tape on sugarmegs, that one must be up on dime or one of those. The I got came via private channel under the condition I don't spread around. I'm listening to Oakland now, same deal. Radically different set, tape not quite as stellar but still excellent. Also, Chicago is pretty widely available. Seen it on BigO & I think guitars101 in lossless. I downloaded that one off a site. Chicago they started with 10.9.8., the whole thing. Finally, there's an audio up on youtube of the Seattle show, which I think is the same as sugarmegs. There are also 5 really good videos from Seattle up on youtube. I can spot myself & friend on a few of them. We were front row in front of Jim Moginie.

Saw her open for Wilco last year. Really good & I have a fairly low tolerance for that sort of thing.

Gave this a deeper listen today.

Lyrically, Roger just doesn't give a fuck anymore, and what I mean by that is that he isn't pulling punches or dressing up his intentions with flowery words. He's blunt, he's angry, he's sometimes preachy, but he knows what he wants.

Melodically, he's very aware of his vocal shortcomings, so he keeps things simple. Nigel Godrich's production, on the other hand, is often lush and beautiful, which is a powerful counterpoint to Roger's voice.

This will probably end up a top 5 album of the year for me.
