Probably not a lot of sympathy around these parts for anything with a whiff of "pop country," but I've been enjoying the new Miranda Lambert album. It's sorta her Southeastern (but better imo). Check out "Things That Break" and "Running Just In Case," for starters.
That and 70s Kinks is all I've been jammin' this week. Just picked up that new / old Gillian Welch thing and the new Neil Young but haven't had a chance to listen yet to either.

This record is getting a lot of positive press, no doubt about that. I normally wouldn't be all that interested but have to admit that after reading so much praise I am a bit intrigued
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing

I hear that, I've been on the same Kinks track, in the last week I've been revisiting Sleepwalker, Low Budget, and the amazing One for the Road. Hell, in general 2016 has been a huge Kinks year for me, one of the only good aspects of an otherwise shitty year

Maybe it will be case of easy come/easy go, or I'll burn myself out on it, but this has just given me that "falling in love" rush from an album that I don't get as much as I used to.

I had/have the exact same feeling! Only recent albums that "got me" like this were a couple from Titus Andronicus

There have been a few recently (hearing Lydia Loveless for the first time sparked a similar reaction), but it's rarely more than 1 per year (and some years that hasn't been one). It seems like in HS/college, I'd have these moments every other month.
+1 for the miranda lambert album. ive enjoyed a lot of her stuff before but this one definitely feels like a reach for the npr/americana crowd, and not in a bad way. its a double album so theres some lesser songs, but i appreciate how each disc feels like its own album. i can play just one without it feeling incomplete. disc 1 is a bit poppier, with disc 2 more heavy on ballads. ive always preferred her upbeat stuff so im much more partial to disc 1 myself. pink sunglasses is such a stupidly fun song.

Yes! Sleepwalker in particular is a real, err, sleeper.
None of these records beat the Village Green > Arthur run, but that's a high bar. Man, I love the Kinks.

That was the one where, a minute in, I'm thinking "well, I hate this one," but then she gets to that "$9.99" part where her voice breaks just so and I'm all "play that one again!"
