pretty sure I have a Terrapin Tapes magnet somewhere, likely way deep in the massive file cabinet I have chock full of nearly 35 years of GD minutiae

This thing might sneak past SBS into my 5. The highs are higher on SBS, but it doesn't have any skippers like Walken or Shake It Off , either.

I've always liked Walken. Never got the hate.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Found an unopened pack of XL-II 90s (four pack maybe?) a few years back while going through a box of cassettes and miscellany. When I was interested in GD I hung around two older guys in particular who were serious traders and much more knowledgeable than me. So it was more fun to hang around them playing DJ than it was to actually build my own collection. And they had better weed.211poundsofpork wrote:Pretty sure I still have some sealed XLII-S 90's and 100's in my basement. Yikes.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
A few more listenings in on this. Some good songs in here (if you can stand Will Sheff's whining voice and self-centered lyrics). Was into them around The Stand Ins and The Stage Names but then lost interest. The title of the opening track - Okkervil River R.I.P. - caught my attention. From the reviews I understand this is more of a solo-album with session (mainly jazz-) musicians.RolanK wrote:

To me it sounds like rock in air quotes. Like, "Listen to us, we're 'rocking.' Isn't this hilarious?"Zip City wrote:Me tooIowan wrote:I've always liked Walken. Never got the hate.

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
I've never taken it that ironically. It sounds like they're just dicking around in the studio and having a blast. It's one of the few songs in the later years that could have fit in on "AM", which is my favorite Wilco album (AGIB is second, oddly enough).Duke Silver wrote:To me it sounds like rock in air quotes. Walken works pretty well in a live setting.Zip City wrote:Me tooIowan wrote:I've always liked Walken. Never got the hate.
"Shake It Off" is pretty blah regardless. "Hate It Here" is another one that i don't like much.

The title track from the new record. I dig the bass line a lot.
