I really like this record. I was not the biggest fan of the Olson-less Jayhawks the first time around, although rainy day music always struck me a very good, but I've softened a bit on Smile and Sound of Lies and I'm digging this.

Rainy Day Music is the pinnacle of the Gary Louris Project, but I'm digging this a lot too. "Quiet Corners & Empty Spaces" could be my favorite song so far this year.

This comes off as fairly derivative but I think it's more of wearing its influences on its sleeve than anything else. Pretty sure they have all the 'Mats records. Some Two Cow Garage too. I like it though, it's a fun record.

I am the furthest thing from an expert on these kinds of matters, but I hear a lot of Dictators/Ramones/New York Dolls/Velvets influence in Natural Child.

I was at the Ramones exhibit at the Queens Museum yesterday and ran across Andy Shernoff from The Dictators. Super cool fucker. And hung with Monte Melnick, Ramones tour manager. He's going to be the judge on a contest we're doing - best Ramones haiku wins an all-expense paid trip to NYC to see the Ramones exhibit!

I had been using DeeDee's uncle as my optometrist since coming to Mississippi (which happened quite by accident) prior to this year when my new insurance stipulated otherwise. I had planned to ask how he was doing. I don't believe he is Cortez although they both coach sports.
