Perfect Saturday night rock n roll record

Album of the year so far by a mile
this one is in transit, should be here any day now. After just finishing the Replacements bio I am on a big Westerberg kick. Already had all the Mats albums so now moving on to getting the Westerberg stuff I don't already have
I already had 14 Songs but for whatever reason, when I picked up Perfect's When Squirrels Play Chicken EP, that jumpstarted a search for more solo stuff from former Mats folks. Though I have a sizeable chunk, I still don't have all of Westerberg's solo stuff and most likely never will as there's been at least a couple things that were internet only that weren't available for long.

Still one of my favorite albums by anybody.

On a total Replacements tip

On days like this I just think they are my favourite band ever. Not the greatest band ever perhaps, but Like DBT, Joy Division and The Clash the emotional attachment is paramount.

Oh, and Tim,Let It Be, and Pleased To Meet Me are classics, so that helps!

I love those three as well, those albums are where they really hit their "groove," so to speak. After reading the book and listening to all the albums this week I have a new appreciation for Bob's guitar work. It's still the songs I connect to most but damn, Bob could play

I saw them a few times and never caught one of the legendary, infamous drunken meltdown shows, can't decide if that is lucky or unlucky :P

To the best of my knowledge The Replacements/Paul Westerberg only played one gig in Scotland, and hardly any in the UK at all. If that is correct I cannot think of any other well known artists from Europe/USA/Australia that applies to, maybe PW had an aversion to flying?

The one time I recall having an opportunity to see them is when they played Cat's Cradle in Carrboro towards the end when Westerberg and Stinson were essentially the only original members of the band left but I missed out. I believe this show is mentioned in the liner notes of the All for Nothing/Nothing for All comp. They also played the Pier and the New Pier in Raleigh as well as a skating rink somewhere on the outskirts of town. Lots of folks still talking about that one. I have seen Westerberg and Stinson but that's it. Westerberg played the Ritz in Raleigh in support of 14 Songs around '94 or so. Stinson played a stripped down duo show (I forget who accompanied him) at the Local 506 in Chapel Hill around the time of his Village Gorilla Head album in 2005. During the middle of the show, he walked off stage to order a drink, taking his guitar with him. While standing at the bar he performed "One Man Guy" (Rufus Wainwright) and "Come On, Get Happy!" by the Partridge Family. As he kicked into the latter, he said, "come on you fuckers, I know you know the words!"

Even now that the All-Prince All-The-Time coverage is over, I'm still really enjoying 89.3 The Current. The last song played was Brian Fallon's "A Wonderful Life"; before that, the new Jayhawks, and after, Adia Victoria, who I would've seen here in town a week ago if I hadn't missed my bus. I gather they play a lot of Minnesota music and mix in stuff that fits with it, which is fine by me.

How's the Brian Fallon solo stuff?

I love the Gaslight Anthem albums up through "Handwritten" but everything after that has just completely blown goats.

I liked the song I heard. I have no comparison to make with anything else he's done, because I haven't knowingly heard any.

kicks ass, but we'll see if it has more staying power than previous albums. i always fall in and out of love with them quickly.
this is a perfect example of why this thread has purpose: I like them and have their other full albums (Black Mountain, In the Future, and Wilderness Heart) but had no idea this was out. I am generally pretty well-informed regarding releases but for whatever reason this one slipped right by me. So all the posts for this one led me to getting it (in fact it just showed up).

I'm digging it, it helped to see him live first. The dude can bring it.
